Well, today, I was helping my boss put a new screen door pully thing on after work. The bracket that holds the the pully thing in place at the door frame was too wide for the holes that were already there, so I had to drill new ones. I didn't have a drill, so I had to use the screw itself and screw it into place manually. The screw wouldn't stay straight, so I had to keep holding it straight. The door was propped open outside, but a strong wind came, blew the door shut, and made me slip with the screwdriver, jabbing it into my right index, almost completely through. I've never seen so much blood from a finger injury, but I wrapped it up and finished the installation. I also got payed extra today, which is awesome. I can't move my index finger much, or really grip anything atm, so I guess playing with a pick is out of the question...

If you drive anything into the skin deep enough to cause a significant amount of bleeding it is imperative that you get a tetanus shot,if not you could be in for a pretty painful and serious wake up call. Also if you have trouble moving the finger or holding on to anything you may well have damaged a nerve or muscle.Either way a trip to your family doctor or the ER is imperative for the tetanus shot anyway if your shots aren't up to date or especially if you never had a tetanus shot.

Screwdriver to hand injuries are common when not using the driver correctly. You are right ,pre drilling or even using a punch may have avoided such a mishap. I myself have stuck my hand before haphazardly Ouch!

I hope all heals correctly for you.

Ok this is an workers compensation issue if you are in the USA. You must go to a doctor and your employer pays for it. You have to fill out workers comp accident report form too and there is a time limit on that. It is the law for an on the job injury here. Then you can also sue the business for unsafe working conditions leading to your loss of ability to play music.

Buxom, this is true. You were an idiot and didn't know how to use tools correctly. For that you may now sue your employer, turn his life upside-down, begger his family and generally make him wish he'd never laid eyes upon you.

Then you can go get a job working with deep fat friers in a fast food joint - and the sky is the limit as far as your employment related injury claims are concerned. Soon you can be set for life.

Schweet! Now you can just keep on playing with your teeth!

Next time grab a hammer and nail to make a pilot hole if you can't find a drill. Sounds like your boss was well equipped for the job - NOT!

I had a brother-in-law who didn't know how use screwdrivers properly, either.

He always used the cheapest vodka and Tang. They tasted nasty.

I understand the doctor but talk of sueing your employer is wrong. It wasn't his employers fault he hurt his finger he did it.

Yes, I am up to date on shots. I had them only a short time ago actually.

And I'm not going to sue my boss, one it was after I was done working, I was helping him work on his house as a good friend, and two, he gave me my first job, and I've been working for him for well over 2 years. Before that job, he was a close friend. An injury is almost impossible where I work.

Yes, I know how to use a screwdriver. I couldn't pre drill, so I had to drive the screw in manually. I didn't have a drill with me.

Buxom,

Sorry to hear of your mis-fortune. Stuff like that does happen, try and be careful with tools. Especially tools that can sling things into your eyes. Wear eye protection when using drills, grinders etc.

Speaking as one who had a hand injury recently, (dog bite) I would definitely go to the Doctor and have it looked at.

I hope you do not have any permenant disability with it.

OL
