So, when you see a dude/dudette with more than...say ten guitars, do you think they're extremely rich out of their tuchases or broke out of their tuchases? I think they're more rich than broke, if you ask me............................... but then again, nobody did ask me. 8)

I just think that they have a real passion for the electric guitar and collecting... perhaps they are serious players too! I'm getting ready to get my sixth strat and I play them all.

Who cares if they're rich or broke? I always think the same thing:

"Nice checkbook. Let's hear you play."

Or you're like me and the only thing you spend you're money that you can spend is on instruments.

That's how I feel when someone has that many. Normally I think that having between 1 and 6 guitars is about right for the average person. Of course everyone is different.

I work for a large home improvement firm so you know I'm anything but rich. If I could afford it, I'd probably own about 35 guitars... I pick that number because I think that is all that I could manage to maintain, tune, tweak, and play in a 40 hour week... obviously, I need to be rich AND retired!

I don't think about that sort of stuff when I'm looking at guitars.

Most of the time when I see a big collection like that, I stop and wonder, just how many of those guitars are actually *paid* off. Then I wanna ask'em how many credit cards they've got and how many are maxed out.

Or...

...just put the price of a pack of cigarettes away per day in your instrument fund and then look at your collection after a few years. In a Chicago train station a pack goes for over $8.00

+1 You can't buy chops/talent.

I won't be going to Chicago any time soon, hehe. I'm a heavy smoker, about 2 packs a day. If I had to pay 8 bucks a pack I would definetly try to quit, that's ridiculous.

I smoke Pall Mall and down here I'm paying $2.66 a pack. Sometimes when the price goes up by 50 cents I start bitching about having to pay over 3 bucks for'em. Maybe I should go up there to try and quit.

Best 'quitting story' personally heard came from a guy who paid his $ to the machine, opened a fresh pack, smelled his hands, looked at his fingers, smelled his breath, pitched the fresh pack in the trash with hate and disgust...13 years ago.

2 packs a day at about $3 (rermember tax and gasoline) will buy you a new American Standard every year.
