I started a thread a couple of weeks ago about my plan to buy either a Gibson ES-335 or a Gretsch Duo Jet.

Today, being my birthday, I picked up my 2011 Gibson ES-335 Dot Re-issue in Cherry with the figured top. Needless to say, I love it!

Everyone needs at least one strat and one 335. Love those in red.

Why do those guitars always look "right" in red?

You picked a cherry. Well done! I'm sure the grain on that top is gorgeous just doesn't show too well in the pics.

They do look right in red. I don't know if it is because the three most famous 335 were red (Chuck Berry, Clapton, Freddie King), or because B.B. owns that body style in Black. I know lately Clapton had been using a bust one and it just doesn't look right. That would be like seeing B.B. King with a purple one. As much as I wanted one in a sunburst the red one just felt right.

So yeah everyone needs a sunburst strat and a red 335.

Thanks everyone.

I must admit that I had a number of Guitarists in mind when choosing this Guitar and it's colour. Alvin Lee, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Chuck Berry (Michael J Fox :)) to name but a few. This Guitar does look so right in Cherry.

Nice guitar you have there. Truly a beatiful guitar. Looks like Jimmy Fallon's guitar minus the white finish. Although I could never justify buying a guitar like this, I do like looking at one. What kind of amp do you have or do you just collect?
