hi, im new here, just after some info about one of my telecasters, which ive posted in the telecaster section. thought a broader hello was in order though.

im 26, been playing just over 10 years, first guitar was an entry level fender acoustic (still got it), and after trying various other guitars, kept coming back to fenders (with 1 exception)

ive got a japanese '62 custom tele RI (the one my other thread is about), a mexican '72 RI custom tele, and a 'satin' strat, one of those limited run 'teflon' coated jobbies.

the story about the '62 is in the other thread, the '72 i saved up for months to buy from my first summer job. 600 odd quid was a lot of money to save from pot washing  this was my first electric. i love the chunkiness of it, C shape neck feels huuuuge, and im a big fan of the neck position fender humbucker. its just a beast.

i was never a fan of strats, i just didnt get it. until i saw my guitar sat in a shop, i was drawn to the finish, it looked and felt amazing. i wasnt in the hunt for another guitar, but thought id give it a go see how it felt.

i ended up buying it, obviously. i totally understand why people like them, it felt soooo nice, i can only imagine what a USA made one is like. i dont know how long this finish was used for, i only ever saw them in 1 fender catalogue though, so im assuming just a year ?

my other guitar is a Seagull 12 string acoustic, which sounds glorious. no other word for it.

my other bits, my main amp is a fender deluxe 112 plus. no idea about anything about it though. ive also got a '70's german made little practice amp, covered in tweed with a celestion in it, which sounds real nice. im not a fan of the gain channel on the fender amp, as oppose to the crystal clear clean channel, so i use an electro harmonix English Muff'n valve powered stompbox for the dirty stuff. with a danelectro trip-l-wah, and a marshall reverb/delay box.

heres some pics, sorry to bore you all. didnt realise i could type so much about so little. and info that can be shed on the strat or the fender amp would be greatly appreciated.

hi just took a rough measurement, somewhere between 1/8-1/4 inch measured at the edge of the fret. not really sure if theres a better way to measure ??

Image

i measured from the edge of the board above the dot to the string. are you exaggerating with your 3/4 inch comment ?

also RE: the carpet - its only our PJ's and the radiator that give away this isnt a genuine '70's photo. wood panelling galore.

Very cool story and a great introduction to the Forum--welcome aboard!

Love your axes (especially those Telecasters!)...you've got a nice herd there.

...and regarding the Seagull acoustics, I've always found them to be nice playing, good sounding guitars--so much so that they would seriously be in contention if I needed another acoustic.

But what do I know? I'm just a displaced Texian trying to make his way through life...

I hate to be the one to mention it, but has anyone ever told you that in that one picture you look remarkably like Mario from Donkey Kong?

I might just be the hat, I don't know... :?

Mooch...welcome to the forum and you already have the first rule down...Pics or it didn't happen! Love that 62 Tele Custom! I traded mine last year on an almost mint SF Super Reverb, and do miss it!

thanks for the welcome.

im a plumber by trade, thats my work uniform hahahaha :D :D occasionally i do some overtime, and save the odd princess here and there, vanquishing mushrooms, you know how it is.

the seagull 12 string is great, another guitar i didnt plan on buying until i played it. i went to the shop with a mate to advise him on buying a guitar - obviously i convinced him to buy a tele, a highway 1 in blonde. while he was trying that, i wandered off into the acoustic room, and the 12 string was sat there.

'shop soiled', it had a tiny ding in the wood - its totally unfinished, no lacquer or stain. sounds amazing, but its VERY soft, very easy to mark with even a fingernail. and there was some sticky stuff on the strings where a price tag had been put on it.

i picked it up and played it, my first 12 string experience, and i couldnt believe what i was hearing. i checked the price, expecting minimum 300 GBP, to my surprise it was 130 !!! i didnt even have my wallet, such was my determination not to buy anything, but my mate offered to pay for it, so i ended up with it. checked on the internet when i got home, i paid about 1/3rd of what it costs new.

Love Seagulls. Learned to play guitar on a 6-string. It's still the only acoustic I own.
