Hey!

I was looking at the amp sections of the guitar stores because I want to buy a new amp and there were 4 amps that caught my attention.

The Fender Blues Jr., the Fender Blues Deville, the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III and the Fender Blues Deluxe.

I've done a little research about them but I haven't had the chance to try them out.

This is what I'd like to ask you:

1) The Fender Blues Jr. is the one who really caught my attention, but being only 15 watts, could I play a gig of, let's say, 1000 people?

2) Which one do you think would be the best match for me, considering I have a Fender Strat and want the Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Buddy Guy, Freddie King, Stevie Ray Vaughan tone?

Thank you so much for your help!

May the Blues be with you!

I have a blues jr.III, I think it is a great amp. I think using it for a gig for a 1000 people is a bit optimistic at best. :)

Playing a gig with 1000 people you'd mike the amp anyway wouldn't you?

I wouldn`t attempt a venue that large with anything under 30W at least but having said that the Blues Jr. is a great amp in its own right and would do just fine miced.

Well if your playing a place with 1000 plus you could be Mic'ing your amp. Depends on facility.

I wouldn't think of any other possibilities other than not micing the amp. I think 100W of a cranked up tube amplifier right behind you would be very good to your ears.

Now that I remember, I gigged once for around 3000 people playing saxophone. The guitarist used Roland Cubes which were 15 watts. They miced it up and it turned out great, no problem at all. Now, those are solid state 15 watts and did just fine, tube 15 watts are louder, so I think the Blues Jr. is my way to go.

I guess I'm gonna have to be in the minority here. The Blues Jr. would be last in line of those choices to me. I think compared to the others, it will sound like a practice amp. I had my Blues Jr. for a short time. It just didn't sound very good to me. I still have my Hot Rod DeVille though. Comparing the two really is just night and day. My Blues Jr. never came close to sounding as good as the Hot Rod.

I would say any of the other choices would be better. Just a matter of trying them out.

It depends on the size of the room and the acoustics. To get the Stevie Ray Vaughan sound you can get a Tubescreamer clone or real one the TS-808. Eric Clapton has his own signature amps but those can be extremely pricey, and I think all have a Fender Strat signature guitar but I would never buy a signture guitar because they're too expensive and I'm not as good as those musicians.
