I don't get that thought process that I seem to hear a lot from people who listen to "good" music. If they are enjoying what they're listening to then who are we to feel bad for them.

I don't feel bad for them cause they like rap, I feel bad because in a few years they will have to eat crow when they catch the bug for another genre. Hopefully the poster will remember their rant and bring it back up to them in the future.

I agree 110%. Music and society as a whole have gone down.
When I hear rap, I here sex and drugs, in the most vulgar way to possibly put it. Okay, yeah, there were songs 'bout sex and songs 'bout drugs when music was good, but it was put more discreetly, not just threw around like it was nothing.
Guys like Wiz Kalifa and Drake and them, they're not real, to me.
My definition of music; emotions and soul put to a tune.
I don't honestly think you can ave a new song come out like every week if there's real soul in them....then again, who write's their own songs, right? Totally underrated!
I actually had a guy tell me that nobody writes their own songs, because that's '!@$'. I call bull$h!t on that one.
The music industry is as perverted and corrupted as society itself. I hear girls talking openly about numerous things that would discust most people, that they've done!
I myself don't know alot of music history, and I don't know alot of the names of songs or the names of bands, but I try to look 'em up when I hear them,
I like most hard rock now a days, I have nothing against it. Staind, heard of them? they're one of my favorite bands out there. You can feel the soul when they play.

I thought Staind broke up. I know their singer has a new solo album coming out. Speaking of solo albums, Joey Ramone has a Solo album coming out on what would have been his 60th birthday (May 19th, 2012) I'm going to buy it. It's supposed to be a compilation of him and many other artists, performing some Ramones songs and a bunch of his solo stuff. It's basically all previously unreleased songs with a few fan favorites. (from what I've heard)

The kids that are growing up today are the most musically obtuse there ever was,on the whole they generally have no inkling what constitutes good music or playing. As long as some POS has a catchy, danceable drum bezt and a booming bass line it's deemed to be good.No one would ever convince that there is any merit whatsoever to rap. Most of what I`ve heard is obscene of disrespectful of some people-women in particular and it robs the music of bona fide artists by the means of samples as most of these people don`t posess the intelligence or talent to write an original song themselves.

as Billy Joel sang " it's all rock n roll to me " the timeline of it all is unimportant, it's the fact that it was all pidgeon holed ie thats Rock, thats metal, thats thrash, thats punk, thats Indy, thats this thats that, then we get the " Guru's" with a recipe for pop and every freakin song sounds just like the last one because all the mediocre ex soap stars want to be pop stars and have to sign up with the Gurus because they themselves couldn't come up with a best seller if they tried so jump on the pop song factory conveyor belt that the few gurus determine whats a seller and whats not it's all X factor pap, like sick hitting the laminate floor it gets everywhere gets all the airplay gets the gurus bank balance topped up so why would they change anything, they'll just keep rolling out the crap till people stop buying it, SPREAD THE WORD PEOPLE HALLELOUJAH wow sorry about that, anyhoo if you want to find a certain genre of music more to your liking ya just got to find the pidgeon hole they keep it in, cause it's never going to find it's way into the mainstream anytime soon unless your so exceptionaly talented they can't ignore you

As far as sex and drugs go, that's solely your opinion. Please, do tell me how it's bad that people are open about such things? How in the unholy blue f*** is a sexually oppressive society remotely good? If somebody does a drug, who are you to tell them they can't (not shouldn't, can't) do it?

Also, Staind are part of the wave of bands that led to the downfall of rock as pop music. Soulless, prepackaged/glossy, whiny music for angsty 12 year olds.

Western society has in fact made immense progress in the past 50 years or so (socially at least; politically, it seems to be going the opposite direction, but that's a whole different story). Social trends and ideals are no longer (generally) being dictated by "laws" set forth in certain religious beliefs, people are becoming more tolerant of various beliefs (or lack thereof), various aspects of sexuality, etc.. I'd rather not live in a world where laws and the social norm are based on the religious beliefs of a small portion of the people, thanks.

Well, that's why I listen to The Ramones. That's why I have damn near 100 or so songs by them on my iPod. Fact is, they're all the proof you need that music can be clean, simple, and well played. I think I've heard only a few mildly offensive words (Hell, $@!&#, $@!, damn. And I'm not even sure about $@!&#, it could be bore, but the subject matter of Glad To See You Go says otherwise.)
