Gary Clark Jr.

He's one of the best young blues guitarists out there. (He's nothing compared to older dudes, but still) I fear he may not live long... He's reached 27

Now, while those people do mostly sound like complete morons, you shouldn't live in the past so much... music evolves, never say "music from X is better than music from Y".

Also, freestyle rap takes a lot of talent. I've done several comedy rap battles and came out on top in each one. My best one was when I said 4 lines and left the crowd stunned. (My rap is usually NSFW, but if you want, I'll post the 4 lines that made me a hero)

I personally don't connect rap with music. People that can carry a tune, generally do.

People's opinions with no knowledge of music, don't count. How can they rightfully offer an imformed opinion of something they are not knowledgeable about.

Yeah, like all those classic rock songs about how drugs are bad and you should always respect women for who they are and what they offer to society.

Oh wait

You just have no sense of humor. I don't rap to be serious, put my heart into it, or anything. I do it to be funny. That got a crowd going. I play guitar to have an extension of my inner self. I don't have to use words when I play.

I didn't put this up to start a flame war.although you are correct.they made their "dirty" words sound good.

You can't criticize something for a certain quality but then simply overlook it in something else. I'm not trying to flame.

SKcopperteleman- I think you be bornt about 30 years later than you shuolda. Don't let them numbskulls at school worry you. They don't know squat. Some people never learn squat. Some people listen to junk music because of some kind of attitude they have or want. Counterculture punk junk is entertaining to counterculture punks. It goes like that. Jazzers Like Jazz etc. Some people like all kinds of music as I think you do and so do I. I even heard some LA gangster rap that I think maybe almost nearly was ok.... for a minute. Smell me? See... I picked up on the "smell" thing. It's all good. But let morons be morons and we'll all get along but probably not. The World just keeps spinnin' and you're in it.

The down fall of todays Education! Many areas don't even have Music classes anymore! No money for it they claim, but to educate a kid in Baltimore City Public Schools is over 14,000.00 a year for a student. What a waste of money! Beuracrates get rich and the kids they turn out are uneducated.

I know what you mean. When I went to school we learned how to play guitar, piano, and autoharp. This was part of the regular class. Probably the last program like that. Playing something like guitar takes creativity, dedication, and hard work. Those are things most schools don't want to instill in our youth. They want you to eat your ADHD drugs and be a zombie sheep.
As far as the original posting, fret not! hehe that's a pun! Popular music is an ever evolving thing. I had the joy of being a teen in the 80s when there were guitar greats bouncing around inside youthful minds. George Lynch, EVH, even guys like Robert Cray and SRV were popular and getting air and video play. Of course that was back when MTV actually played music videos. Guitar Hero has sparked interest in learning to play while the radios are devoid of inspiration. Trust me, there was a time when you had to have a butterfly collar silk shirt and disco to be cool! In the mean time practice practice practice. You may be the one that brings it back!
