I just like the tone I get with 9's

11's because I like the tone better on single coils. I can dig in deeper on my bends,

I like the bendability of 9's, but the tuning stability of 10's.
Put another way, I prefer 10's for rhythm (chords), and 9's for leads.
I'm searching for a happy medium. I'm going to give slinky 10's a try.

Neither-I swear by .008-.038 D'Addario nickel wound strings.I have used .008-..038s since around 1969.I do a lot of bending and use the whammy quite a bit.Where I play a lot of Hendrix and have relatively small hands plus a neuro-muscular-skeletal problem with my hands and forearms,I need very light guage bendable strings and .008-.038s do the trick and the beauty of the D'Addarios is that they stay in tune and keep their new string brightness for much longer than most other brands.

On my Jaguar I use 11's. I'm heavy handed and I found that with the short scale those 11's don't feel too thick. I'm also primarily a bass player so I'm used to big strings. On my Tele and Mustang I use 10's though. I get a great tone and they hold up to the abuse I put them through very well.

14s now, up from 13s, 12s can work for me in a pinch (on some one else guitar though). as another poster noted, my grip, as a bass player, is too great for lighter string gauges so that even the best guitars sound out of tune when I play them.

If 6 was 9 , I would not mind. :)

Actually I have always used Super Slinky 9/42 and thinking about going bigger and see what a different world sounds like. I keep reading that fatter strings make the Strato sound better all in all. :?:

I prefer Fender pure nickel 10-46. I love the tone and I have not broken a string since changing to them 5 years ago.

I put 10's on my strat, but found that I prefered the lightness of 9's. However, with the weakish single coils on the MIM standard, the 10's make a big difference in tone and general sound. I found that the solution was to detune every string by a semitone-the tension is roughly the same as it was, it is very comfortable, and sounds like 10's. It is the best of both worlds :D The only disadvantage is that there is slightly more string rattle/hitting the frets, when I play harder, because it's down a 1/2 step.

I usually go with 9's but on occasion I'll strap on some 10's. Sometimes 9's are a little easy to get away from you...especially if your action is real low.

My wife is a 10 and I am a 2 1/2

I prefer 9s on my strat and 10s on Les Pauls.

I have 12s on my Taylor acoustic BUT they are a little too much for my arthritic hands. No matter how hard I try, I just don't have the hand strength to play acoustic. I keep trying though :D

After changing my Strat back-and-forth from 9s and 10s, I'm currently settled in the middle: D'Addario 9.5s.

Now this I'm gonna look into. Maybe the compromise I was looking for.

Being fortunate enough to own multiple strats and tele's I have a variety of gauges I use. For years I stuck with D'Addario 10's on everything except for guitars set up specifically for slide then I'd go heavier gauge 12 or 13's but as of late I go between 9 or 10's depending on how loose my fingers are feeling, still use heavier gauges for slide and for open tunings.
