I've noticed a few times while browsing boutique custom-type humbuckers that some are being listed as RWRP.. What would be the purpose of that with humbuckers? Does it then "unbuck" the hum cancelling properties? Is it a difference in phase? What does that actually do?

Jah Soldier, could you find an example of what you're asking about and include a link to it? A humbucker being RW/RP in relation to another humbucker doesn't make any sense.

A humbucker is essentially two single coil pickups, with one of them being RW/RP in relation to the other. Traditional humbuckers have the two coils side by side, but there are others where one coil is stacked on top of the other. A humbucker can't be "RW/RP" in relation to another humbucker -- it can only be in-phase or out-of-phase.

If you split two humbuckers (turn off one coil in each making them single-coil pickups), the working coil of one can be RW/RP in relation to the working coil of the other. (But they don't have to be -- if you mix models/brands, they might not noise-cancel when you split both of them and run them together.) So the ads you've seen may refer to the humbuckers being RW/RP when they're both in split mode.
