Decided to go with the Super Sonic 60, probably in blonde. Earlier today I played the Deluxe, Twin (WAAAAAAY too loud), SS22, SS60, and SS100. I liked every single one SOOOOOOO much more than my Hot Rod deluxe. I decided it's the SS60 I want, since it has the reverb and cleans of the DRRI (well, cleans of a vibrolux or a bassman), and a GREAT gain channel.

What's everybody else's thoughts on this particular amp?

I've played through Super Sonics before. I'm a fan. :)

I was very impressed by the early versions of the Super Sonic--enough to put it on the "if my amp dies" GAS list.

I have not heard or played through the revamped Super Sonic line; everything I've read and heard was favorable, though...when you finally get yours, please post a sound sample and some pics...

I was overly impressed with a MusicMaster through one, so I decided that I'm saving up for at least an MM this summer by taking a second, maybe even a third job. Of course it'l be a vintage one.

I just sold mine. It was a 2006 112 version. I got rid of the Celestion G12 and put in a Jensen Jet Electric Lightning speaker along with a set of Tungsol 12AX7, Mullard 12AU7, and went with the Winged C SED 6L6 matched power tubes. Biased a little on the hot side. LOVED THE SOUND!!

but I'm not a gigging musician and I made enemies of everyone in my house and most of my neighbors. Couldn't pull the volume over 2 and really loved playing it on 4-5 for the best sounds.

I yanked my tubes and speaker, inserted the original ones and sold it locally for just about what I paid used ($800).

Sad to see it go. Seriously thought about buying the SS22 but it's really not the same amp at all!

If you can do loud, the Super Sonic is one of my favorite amps and there will always be a soft spot in my heart for that beautiful blonde I once had the privilege to own!! :)

Hi Floyd,

It was a while back but I had a go on this...

.... and loved it! 8)

As you said "Great cleans and a great gain channel". I totally agree.

Andy

It's kind of shocking how different the 22 and 60 are though... IIRC, the 22 has a "bright" button for the cleans as opposed to the option of Bassman or Vibrolux, and it's gain sounds really tin-y and thin as opposed to the 60's nice, crunchy, gain.

They are some sweet amps. Although, with the Peavey I bought back in January, it has a bright, 2 different gains, and spring reverb. I'd look into one for yourself a little while after buying this one. They're probably a max of $100 if you shop around.

This could be good as a vocal amp actually.... What model and how much power does it pack?

Envoy 110 from the mid 80s. It's the kind with the brushed steel and sea green trim.

It has a single 10 inch speaker and mine is a 75 watt model. (Although, I heard they made all the way from 50s to 100s) It has the nicest solid state gain I've ever heard. When you pull the push pot out it sounds sort of tubey. My Gain settings are Supersat 10, Bottom -12, Edge 15, Reverb 3, and the pot pulled out. It gives a great classic punk tone, but I'm to lazy to get to my big laptop for a demo.

you get the idea.

By 4 I had a slight headache. That's just because it echoed in my room.
