Hi, everyone!

I'm a newbie here and I have a question regarding threads and if I'm not understanding the TOC correctly. I recently posted inquiring about a older model MIJ Strat that I own and what info could be passed to me about this awesome guitar. I did get some good info that backed up some of my personal research that I've done.
To make a long story a little shorter, I put it up on Ebay to see what kind of interest it would generate and just posted a link to the auction to see if anybody here was interested. I came back an hour or so later and the whole thread was gone. Did I violate the TOC unknowingly and got the thread pulled? I'm not much of a forum-goer so I'm not sure of some of those rules and how they would be applied. Could this have happened or could it have been just a technical glitch?

Thread probably got pulled. I think it's against forum rules to make or post sales here. Avoids a whole host of complications.

I think that was it!

Uh oh, my newbie-ness is showing through....

No harm intended, I shall be careful in the future about posting sales-type stuff.

Are we allowed to make a mention of sales? (ex. My guitar is on sale on ebay) without posting a link?

You'll have to defer to the authorities who actually know what they're talking about, but my guess is no. I think again it all boils down to the effects of the precedent it would set. While you might be well-intentioned by mentioning your sale in passing, a rule allowing all posters to mention a sale in passing would allow a later seller to come and post in every forum that their guitar was for sale on ebay, without posting a link to it, but carrying the exact same sorts of problems as the baseline rule.

On the other hand I'm sure there are exceptions. I could see a thread where someone says "man I really love that axe. You must love it too," and you respond, "I do but I'm trying to sell it. It just doesn't see enough love." That wouldn't really be soliciting buyers.

So short answer- I have no idea what the rule is and I have no idea why I'm attempting to answer. Anyways, welcome to the forums. Take off your coat and stay a while.

The FF will blast your thread if you try to sell something. That is a violation here. Repeat offenders on TOS violations can have their accounts deleted. I know that has happened. Read the terms so you'll know in the future what you can and can not do. Just FYI. It could be they couldn't delete just that one post without deleting your account and they didn't want to do that since you were new, so they blasted the entire thread instead of your account. When your account is deleted only your posts vaporize, not entire threads. So consider yourself lucky.
