I did not plug in myself, because I don't do that, because I'm paranoid about the GC employees and others secretly laughing at me and whatnot. I don't want to be "that guy."

So I actually went to get some "live music" from the GC weekend warriors yesterday, on purpose. Didn't have anywhere else to go at the moment to hear some live guitar.

Anyone else ever done that?

That is why I own a kindle.

About one out of every six trips to GC, I'll hear a good player going at it.

When I do, I usually approach them and compliment their playing, especially if it is a young person.

Not to brag (because I'm not a great player), but when I play slide (which is what I do best on guitar) or harmonica (which is what I do best, period), people will often stop and listen, especially employees.

I think it's because I don't crank a 400 watt full Marshall stack to infinity and shred badly for an hour. I keep it at a reasonable volume and politely check out the guitar or mic I'm considering buying (if I'm really serious about the guitar, amp or mic and I want to hear it at "gig level", I'll ask to go into another room before I crank it; if they don't have another room, I warn them that it's gonna get loud).

I know it's not because I'm awesome (I'm not)...I think the employees appreciate the reprieve from the noise, as well as the respect I show by asking before I crank it up.

It has been my experience that GC North Houston has no respect for it's customers. The funny thing is that there is Texas Music Emporium across I45 and 1960 in that shopping center there. I have had excellent service there.

I had a bad experience at GC and for giggles I went to TME to see what they could do. I walked out with a brand new Highway 1 there. The deal was so much better and I got way more for trade in for my BC Rich Warlock that was offered at GC. I have been a loyal customer to TME ever since. I have bought all my major purchases there ever since.

I am not trying to promote business for TME, but they are a lot better than GC North Houston. I think it is worth a looksy the next time you want anything. BTW picks are 25 cents a piece there. That is like 3 bucks.
