pentatonic - 5 notes
I -the root chord, does not matter - both major and minor pentatonic scale tones work
THe IV and V depends. If minor then wank away in the minor pentatonic. If major wank away in major pentatonic. Or use the corresponing relative minor of the major.

Play around with it and you will begin to hear what fits and what does not. The notes that don't fit... well call them jazz notes and have fun.
