When I saw him (just a few months before his death), he was using a Quad Reverb with everything turned up to "10" except the bass knob...I've been told that he would use a Twin Reverb in a pinch (if he hadn't brought his own amp).
The Quad Reverb hasn't been made in quite a while, but they aren't hard to find. If you buy one, you'll probably have to have some service done to it (new tubes, perhaps new filter capacitors, etc.), but they were good, tough amplifiers.

Be warned: those amps are LOUD and very heavy.

If you can't find a Quad Reverb, a silverface Twin Reverb has an extremely similar sound and setup (if I remember correctly, the Quad was just a Twin with two extra speakers, but I may be wrong)...and the silverface Twin Reverb is easy to find and relatively cheap.

Welcome to the Forum! What kind of guitar do you play?

Yes, that's true, the reason I know is that when I played with Piney Brown http://blues.about.com/b/2009/02/18/blues-singer-piney-brown-rip.htm, we opened for Albert whenever he played Gilly's here in Dayton.

Albert played in Piney Brown's back in late '50s and was Albert's mentor. Albert asked me to join his band, but I was a single parent with two kids and they needed me more.

There is a pretty good DVD that Albert made with Keith Wyatt 'Albert Collins' http://www.amazon.com/Albert-Collins-TIM-LANDERS/dp/B0007MSUSA/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1330782762&sr=8-2-fkmr0, that covers his tuning and playing style.

Thank you very much to both, for the information provided. I love the blues and I like Albert Collins, of course. their sound is difficult to imitate. But I would get something. I like many acute extracted from his guitar. That is why I ask the question amp the forum. Here is a video that played with a twin albert and not a quad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GGLCaxcSh0) and tuned the strings in
F-C-F-Ab-C-F not?
Another question that the PAF gibson made guitar with double coil? some people say he did a four winding especially for him. You are saying? I like the guitar is the Fender Telecaster. You see I'm a fan of Albert Collins. As has used a Gibson paf, I think it is logical that Fender does not mention it in your website. Thank you and sorry for my english

The difference between a Quad and a Twin is the speaker configuration. They are all essentially 100 watt Twin Reverbs, The Super Six too. I had a 76 Twin. Great amps any you look at it.

Yes, he had a Gibson PAF humbucker in the neck position of his Telecaster (Keith Richards did he same thing on one of his Teles).

I have a made-in-Mexico Tele Special that originally had a coil-tapped humbucker in the neck position. I could get fairly close to his sound through my Bassman Ten...but I changed out the neck pickup for a P-90 and added a 4-way Telecaster switch and a Fender No-Load tone potentiometer, so my guitar's nominal resemblance to the Iceman's guitar is long gone.

At one time Fender made an Albert Collins signature model (I don't think it's currently in the catalog)...a pretty good copy of his main guitar, but it wasn't cheap. It had a reproduction of a Gibson PAF in the neck position.

If I recall correctly, you have his tuning correct...that was one of the things that made Albert so hard to copy, that bizarre tuning. He also didn't use a flatpick--he was all fingernails and fingertips, which had to affect his sound more than one might think.

So you seem to be on your way to understanding his rig...now comes the hard part--figuring out how to play like him!

By the way, your English is better than me trying to communicate in whatever your native language happens to be...no need to apologize.

A pretty cool discussion--mostly anecdotal and conjecture (if you're gonna learn English, let's go all the way :P ), and most of the same info we've discussed here, but further reading on a subject you like...

I love Albert's playing as well and often tune my guitar up to Em and get my capo out. One thing i don't understand, and maybe someone will have a slant on it: why did Albert tune to Fm? it's a strange one, why not Em? this way if he wants to play in E with a band he's got to capo way up on the 11th fret! and as we all know E is a pretty common key for the blues.

Advantages all over the place for the open tuning; you can get a great fuller bass sound, great boogie woogie on the lower strings with less movement, intersperse that open chord on the bass strings with lead on top. So many advantages over standard tuning. Some disadvantages too.

For the op, remember your capo! you can't emulate Al without the capo.

Albert first learned to play by watching his cousin play a lap steel guitar, which he had tuned to Fm. In the beginning, that was the only key he could play in, until he saw Gatemouth Brown playing a Fender Esquire with a capo.

He asked Brown what was that 'stick' he had on the neck of his guitar and why did he use it. Brown told him that he tuned to a open 'G', and by moving the capo, he could play in different keys. So, Albert started using a capo.

Well, really it more his thumb, if can find a picture of Albert, take a look at the thumb on his right hand, it had a huge 'bump' of harden skin that he used as his 'pick'.

This is one reason he turned his amp to '10'. Try this experiment, turn your amp, play with a pick, and than play with with fingers (skin). The pick will will give a more percussion tone (louder in volume) and skin yields a softer tone (lower in volume), so if you play with skin, you have to turn up your amp.

After all these years, I just discovered Albert Collins, WOW! How could I have missed that guy!!! I do see his replica Telecaster's at Musican's Friend and on eBay, they are over $4000 a copy. Now comes my music collection expansion and trying to figure out his tuning and a few licks.
