I have a couple of Fenders that have have developed a buzz after changing strings (often different gauge strings) . The buzz is coming from the string trees. What is the cause and remedy for this?

There shouldn't be any vibration behind the nut. Does the buzzing stop if you fret the string? Does the buzzing stop if you touch the string behind the nut? Does it only happen if you play an open string?

It sounds like a nut problem to me rather than a string tree problem. Have your loosened the string trees? Do you think you've fitted the strings properly in the way they go through the string tree? Have you chaged to thicker or thinner strings?

The buzzing stops when I touch the tree. I got it to stop on a Strat Powerhouse with rotating string trees by oiling them, but I have a Tornado with fixed trees that buzzes on the "b" string, and I it never used to. I can't really remember what I did to it that caused it to behave this way. It could only be a new set of strings.

Is the spacer on the tree vibrating against the screw? Or is it a one pice string tree?

If its the former, just try tightening the screw a little..
