Good morning all (or evening or afternoon depending on where you are in the world.) Earlier this morning a group of 5 students from my school (BGSU) where on their way to the Detroit airport when they where in a head on collision with another car. Three students have died. Right now details are limited but I cant help but assume that the car that hit them had a driver that may have been under the influence.

Just last week my roommate came back highly intoxicated and was speaking of suicide. We have reached out for help for him.

Let this be a reminder to us all that our actions can have deadly effects on others and its up to us as adults to act in a way that will not jeopardize the health and safety of us and those around us. My fellow university students, spring break is on the way so please be careful and remember your actions can have a great effect on many.

The university is saddened today but we must take this as a learning experience. If there are any fellow Falcons on here, please remember we must fly together and roll along. Hopefully we can all learn from this.

I think that it's a sad fact that as long as we have automobiles we will have braindead idiots who insist on driving drunk. After working in a Rebabilitation Facility for over 30 years I've seen first hand the devastation caused by drunk drivers and believe me- there are fates much worse than death. My heart goes out to your school mates and their families, may God bring comfort to them.

It appears as though the killing will never end. Even after severe penalties and rehab, Were still hearing of DWI Fatalities. If your the guilty party in one of those it's automatic jail time. Even without an accident it's going to cost you your job, several thousand dollars in fines, court cost's and untold ridicule from others. Yet it's still going on every day. What dose it take to convince folks that were not going to accept that kind of irresponsible behavior. I think the answer might be more severe penalties for DWI infractions / Jail Time maybe 6 months without an accident and more with one. A death should be worth negligent manslaughter. maybe then they would listen.

the situation in this thread may not be alcohol related. it involved an older lady (age 69 i believe) who may have made a wrong turn on to the highway.

either way, it is just a tragedy. the wrong way driver also lost her life

Older drivers can also be a liability on the road, just yesterday I was behind a driver who was going 20 - 30 km below the posted speed limit even though it was a clear sunny day. As it happened we were going to the post office in our community. When he got out of his car he was barely able to walk because his legs were so atrophied. How could that man have stopped in time if a child darted out in front of him or another vehicle cut him off? At that age no matter what your physical condition often your reaction time is retarded also. People who drive markedly below the speed limit are a bigger menace than a lot of the people who drive fast. One day last summer there was a car ahead of what ended up being a line of cars that probably numbered 50 or 60.I was a good few cars behind the lead car and on a long straight stretch of the road there were cars as far back as I could see.It was during the "rush" hour so there was an endless stream of cars coming the other way, making passing impossible.Anyway this driver was driving 40 kph(about 25 mph) the whole way along the 10 mile drive even in the 80 and 90 kph zones. When he reached his destination he too could hardly walk and was much worse than the old man I mentioned previously. In a situation like this drivers who are normally very cautious will end up taking chances they wouldn't normally dream of out of pure frustration.
