I found out yesterday that im being made reduntant from my job as an IT trainer. My last day is today, great notice period eh!

I mainly came on this forum during my breaks at work, and with all the stress of finding a new job and how busy i am with my music now, i may well not be on here again for quite some time.

So just thought i would say thanks for all the interesting reads you guys have provided me with for the last year or so! Thanks for the useful advice, and best of luck to everyone with their music.

Olly

p.s. also, hope you lot dont get affected by this darn recession in the same way i just have :x

The very best wishes to you, Olly. Hopefully, you'll be back and with great news about yourself.

My condolences, Olly-

The same thing happened to me almost two years ago.

I was able to stay busy--between the job search, working odd jobs (remodeling my in-laws bathroom, installing a French drain in my parents' yard, washing windows on people's homes), taking my daughter to school and going on field trips with her class, and bumping up the volunteer work I was already doing with my congregation, I had to find a job so I could slow down for a moment!

One bit of advice: You're eventually going to get angry, especially if it was a decision by a higher-up in the company that caused you to lose your job (in my case, the insistence of our regional manager to give two lower-level managers "one more chance" [after several severely messed up projects] caused the company to lose two huge contracts, which led to the layoff of five individuals--none of whom were the cause of the lost contracts  ).
Get mad, bash it out on a guitar or a rock or something, and get over it. That anger hurt me, because I held on to it too long. It's not healthy.

We had to move away from our home, but we're making it. You might have to make some drastic moves, too, but it's not as bad as you might think (one plus--further away from the in-laws!)

You'll do fine--we are all pulling and praying for you!

Good Vibes headed your way from Texomaland...

Welcome to the club Olly, my situation was similar to Screamin Armadillo's. I lost my management position 2 years ago and have lived off of unemployment, my savings, odd jobs, and 2 part time jobs while looking for fulltime work. With your background in IT you should be in a better position to become employed again soon. Hang in there its not as bad as it feels right now. You'll get through it... and on the bright side you'll have more time to play your guitar...

I'm sorry to hear about your job situation Olly, sadly that's a sign of the times, companies are downsizing and cutting jobs and usually it's the hardest working most valuable peeople who are let go while some management who get paid huge salaries for little work are kept on.
