I played a Strat once, for probably 5-10 mins, and I didn't like it. The neck didn't feel nice or more appropriately, different, and not I am used to, so it affects my play. Thinking back. I probably spent too little time, to make a good judgement. Now, I am in a phase, of wanting to try out anything I could afford. In fact, I bought a Tele recently, and I am loving it. 2 years ago, I couldn't even think of buying a Tele.

Now, in my local site, there is a 1989 Eric Clapton Strat pewter on sale. I am kinda tempted. But will I like it? I guess I have to go out and try it. Time changes, preference change. So maybe it will bond well this time.

Anybody here has one? if you do, what do like or not like about it. (probably nobody want to say the not like part). Do Fender make guitar with jumbo fret?

By the way, I don't play any Eric Clapton song.

Yes, Fender do make guitars with jumbo frets, but as far as I know, the Clapton Strat isn't one of them - it comes with vintage (smaller) frets.

But don't let that stop you - I have a CS Strat with 6105s (quite narrow/tall), a Tele with medium jumbos and a MIM Strat with vintage-style frets and I get on great with all of them. For me, the main thing is how the shape of the neck feels in your hand - if that's right, you accommodate for the fret size almost without thinking about it.

Go and play this Strat, and for more than 10 minutes. Can't guarantee you'll like it, but if you do fall head over heels in love with it, you'll be in good company...

Hi arizal_adl: what sort of guitar does feel comfortable to you? Knowing that will help work out whether any of Fender's offerings might interest you or not.

The average Tele neck is a lot different to the average Strat one. Typically chunkier and thicker, front to back. So liking a Tele does not necessarily mean you will come around to Strats. Though it might.

There again, the necks on Clapton models are not typical Strat C-shapes either. They are variations on V-necks, depending which Clapton model you get hold of (not all Clapton sigs are created equal). So well worth a try. And yes, I'd give it more than ten minutes to be sure.

Good luck - C

Up until probably the last 2 years, I was mainly on thin, D profile neck, with medium and jumbo fret, a big mm (or inch) radius, which mean they are flat or almost flat fretboard. However, I got Epi Slash AFD, which has a different neck profile (and fret size), and recently Tele American Special.

Though it seems it I feel better on the D profile, think neck, the other works well for me too, after a while getting used to them of course. So, I am guessing, this Strat will work for me too. Though there is a specific neck profile etc that I feel at home with, I don't want to limit myself with that, and wanted to try others. Who knows, I could find a new 'home''.

Maybe one of the '62 reissue Strats would be more to your liking. The '62 - '65 Strats had about the slimmest profile and most comfortable necks of all-at least to my hands and in my humble opinion. These Strats also-to me at least-sounded the best of all Strats as their pickups picked up more of the ringing "chime" that a Strat produces.Your best bet is to try several and give them a chance to grow on you.Any guitar that you're not used to may seem a little awkward at first but after time it could well be the most comfortable guitar you own.If a guitar feels terribly uncomfortable to you give it a pass because it's unlikely that it will grow on you.Best of Luck with your search.
