I thought I'd join you all here. I'm a Strat player. I bought my first one in 1973 in London. It was second-hand and what I call 'Baboon's $@! Pink'. The first thing I did was strip it back to wood, which I now regret. It was already old and had I left it pristine, it would probably be worth a fortune today.

I bought it at Fender Soundhouse on Tottenham Court Road. The salesman told me that if I wanted anything done to the setup, to go and ask Seymour in the back room. That's when I met Seymour Duncan. We became friends and he played in a band I had going. We did a little tour over to Germany together. He'd get his sound by turning a Fender Twin up full bore and then lay it down, speakers facing into the floor. That was to cut the volume down. He had already set up my Strat with big fat frets and a zero fret. It's been a great guitar and only recently did I put on a new pick guard and saddles. It's been re-fretted twice. I'm still in touch with Seymour and I put some of his pickups in any years ago.

I play a sort of normal/slide hybrid style in standard or Dropped D tunings... it's my thing.
Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok6mktRrD0Y

Anyway, nice to meet you all ...

Kirk

Thanks for the welcome, guys ... yes, fun story. We were just skinny, hungry kids, Seymour and I. We took the train and ferry across to Germany. Seymour played his Gibson SG the whole way, unplugged of course, clickety clickety click. It was so neat to hear about his success as the years went by. I moved to Australia, but we'd call each other form time to time. In the late 80s' he told me on the phone "Man, you gotta come visit me in Santa Barbara ... we just bought a new house ... I don't even KNOW how many rooms we have!"

The last time I saw him was in Vancouver in 2005, I had gone back for a year and he was in town doing what he does: workshops and demos. I also saw him there in 1994 at the Music West Trade Show. I had just finished my instruction material PlaneTalk and was sharing a part of the Aussie display area. He does all the trade shows. He's a true gentleman and one of the most ardent guitar lovers on the planet.

Hi, Kirk & welcome. I hate to echo what all the others had to say, but that is a cool story. I checked out most all your you tube stuff. Great slide, I love your sound. 8)
