That "remembering Leo Fender" thread gave me an idea for this post.

Check this out, a fight, Leo Fender vs. Les Paul...LOL

Let's say this fight takes place back when they were in their prime, 30 yrs. old.

I know, I know, this is a Fender forum and everybody will be rootin' for Leo. But put your love for Fender aside and really think about it.

I say Leo would win, Les looks more tame than Leo.

Since Pat McCarty designed the Les Paul, along with the ES 335, 337, Explorer and V, I'd say Leo.

(Edit, days after posting-Ted McCarty designed guitars, Pat McCarty races cars  )

I say Leo of course.

Another cool version would be something like, what would hold up better in a bar fight, a telecaster or a les paul, of course you could substitute the tele for a strat.

The Les Paul has a couple of pounds on the Tele, but the Tele has reach. That would be a good match up.

any good fight fan knows that a reach advantage can be a deciding factor so I'd have to go with the tele in this fight...LOL

But Les has one good Arm, his right arm was broken, so he had it set in playing position.

That about sums up what I don't like about Gibson, their Legal Department is bigger than thier Research and Develoment. Is their anyone left thet they haven't sued.

Not to mention what they did to Ted McCarty when he went to work for PRS. Gibson slapped a law suit on every design he came out with, hoping one of them would stick. In the case of the first PRS single cutaway, they were succesful. Ted McCarty is responsible for the Les Paul, Les Paul the man just approved it a tweeked it. Like an Eric Clapton Stratocaster, EC didn't build it.

Why are they fighting in the first place?

It should be Les Paul and Randy Rhoads fighting. They are the ones with guitar lines named after them

but then again, RR is dead...
