Would any body else out there like to get Fender to make a Vintage modified 1 or 2 channel amp with only reverb, no amp modeling and have bass, treble and ' mid ' tone controls? It would be like a tube version of the Frontman 25. Come on, thats what I am looking for, and price it affordably !!!

+1

Fender made its name by creating those great, amazing simple amps...all these models and crud like that just takes away from what makes a Fender sound like a "Fender"...

One more word. Egnater

Fender doesn't seem to really care too much about the old days and the original "Classic Fender Sound". They seem to be moving on. The Fender sound won't happen with EL84 power tubes, modeling or "studio quality" built in effects. It's all about how many units they can sell and how big the profit margin is. The HRD series and Vintage Molested series started it. Even the Acoustiasonic amp has room modeling. How about letting my Martin sound like a Martin when I plug it in. My Fishman amp does.

The bottom line is if you want high quality for a low price, you won't get it. If you adjust the price of the old gear for inflation, we paid quite a bit of money for it. My $300 Strat back in 72 is around $1300 in today's economy. $1,000- 1,500 for a decent amp is fair. The other alternative is build one yourself. There's lots of clones in a wide range of prices and you actually learn while you build. If I can build my own pedals and an amp, you can too!

So I am not sure, are all those comments a yes or no to my question about Fender making an affordable VM without all the bells and whistles ?

The short answer is no. The VM amps are loaded with bells and whistles and tons of cheesy effects. That's where the modified part comes in. They take a great amp like the Bandmaster or Deluxe Reverb and modify it until it doesn't resemble the great amp it once was.

If you want bare bones, try the new Excelsior amp or the Champion 600. Even then you won't have a mid control or reverb. You will get Tremolo with the Excelsior but no tone control except for a bright switch.

You may have to look outside the Fender camp.
What price range are you calling affordable?

A Pignose G40V is an all tube low priced amp. Two 6L6s and 3 12ax7s. 40 watts. You would have to look around for one, because I'm pretty sure they've quit making them. I bought one new a few years ago for $139. No reverb.

63supro,
$139 to $179 would seem to be a reasonble price range for a Frontman25 tube amp. Iv'e seen some Vox and Blackstar, and honestly for an amp that has a Classic Fender look, I'd be happier with a Fender than something else. I am not too thrilled with the looks of Marshall, Peavey, or others. I know that what is most important is the sound, but I just don't want an amp geared for a teeny-booper. Just want a nice clean mellow sounding affordable tube Fender amp that won't scare the neighbors when I turn it up to 3.
