Reminds me of when these "gangsta" kids tried to say they could do better, so I played with my teeth and then they all kind of went "Ok, homie" and walked away.

That's the spirit Kid, there's always some "A- hole" whose only talent is their willingness to spoil it for those who have a genuine talent...Rock on 8)

There was this other kid who said he could do better, so I let him have a go. First of all, he wore the strap around his neck, like a necklace, second, the weight of my Telecaster (around 9 lbs or so) made it so he couldn't support his head, third, he plucked one string, then laughed when I messed up and said I couldn't play.

Hey Grasshopper, I heard your recordings and I think you do a nice job. Don't worry about it.

The worlds full of people that will criticise just for the sake of it. That was the thing to do hand the guitar to him and say "ok let's hear you!" Rock on, you're doing something positive with your life while all they can do is criticise and be negative. Don't take any critics to heart. Plenty of people were scathing of jazz giants Miles Davis and John Coltrane and they are now legends. :)

You have some genuine talent and some excellent abilities...I always enjoy your recordings, and I know you have the potential to be one of the better players of your chosen genre(s). There's always gonna be "one of those" no matter how where you go or how many more years you play.

When I listen to you, I sometimes have to remind myself how young you are...you play better than many people twice or even three times your age...

...and if you need for us to show up and act as "security" and break some knees, just ask. :P

Times like that are tough and we have all been through it.
Over the years I've learned that people with low self esteem feel the need to belittle others in order to make theirselves look bigger. I've come to feel sorry for people like that.
Keep up what your doing. Your very talented and from reading your posts I would say you've got a good head on your shoulders as well.

Hey SK don't let these dolts, from what I've heard of your playing they have absolutely no reason to make fun-your playing is quite good. There's a word we use around here for people like that-jealousarses.

Maybe they just didn't get your style of music.
No-one can question your talent.
Some kids have got it, some never will.

It was another kid that criticized you. Most of us are older guys and have been around the block more than a few times. You have a great talent and a musical maturity for such a young guy.

After repeated criticism from a few specific players (all of whom were better than me at the time). I ended up writing a song called "Leave My Guitar Alone"...

One of the lines goes, "I know I ain't no BB, and I ain't no Stevie Ray, but I can play a few things baby, a few things that you can't play..."

Another line goes, "Yo mama might hate my guitar, but my guitar hates yo mama, too!"

That's my attitude; I'm not the best, but I'm certainly not bad...there's always somebody better at something, and everybody needs to allow for a differently abled player within their circle...Satriani blows Keith Richards out of the water technically, but if you were starting a band, who would you choose? It would be Keef every time (for me).

You're a good player, SuperKid, and you handled that critic perfectly--you put him on the spot and made him look stupid. Good job!

As much as I like to give you a hard time SK I believe that you are a very talented young man. I'm sure that some small minded criticism doesn't bother you that much. :) However you need to work on your business skills...perhaps you should charge $1.00 to allow the punk to criticize you while you pretend that his opinion matters.

Congrats on your performance! I have heard your tracks myself and you are an inspiration to older folks like myself who started playing as well.

One word of simple advice. Keep playing and never look back!

In other words...... you will get negative comments and positive comments. Just keep playing. I promise you this. You will shine by being productive with your music than focusing on negative comments. I know it is hard, we are all human and we like to hear the good comments.

All the best to you my friend......and keep us posted on your next performance!
