Through a post on the bass Forum, I was curious as to how much response a thread like this would bring.

Yeah, although it was quite a simple mod. This is what I did:

I wonder how many other people have modded their guitars?

Very nice.

I was curious about modifications because of a post in another Fender Forum. While there are many players satisfied with the performance of their Fenders, a lot use them as a platform to create a unique instrument.

Technically, once the original strings have been changed, the guitar has been modified.

All but one of my Statocasters has been modified. With Martian's viewpoint all of them have.

Only mod I've made is to my Classic Player Jazzmaster - swapped the Adjustomatic bridge for a roller Tune-O-Matic. Made a huge difference.

I don't really feel like something belongs to me until I personalize it in some way. So I mod all my guitars and amps. Some just get minor reversible cosmetic mods, others get significant permanent mods, but they all get some little tweak.

Most of my guitars have had some sort of mod done to them.

This was just an "opinion" poll. everyone's opinion is the right one, as long as they're happy with it.

I have bought all my guitars for their original sound. If I mod them I lose that. If I need something else I buy a guitar that fulfills that new need. Saying that I will not buy a guitar if the mechanicals are not right. The only mod I am considering is locking tuners. I have them on my AM deluxe and love them. I am fortunate that I do not have to consider $$

It depends what you call a "mod" really, I do setup tweaks on my Fenders and of course change strings but if I want a guitar that sounds different then I'll buy the guitar that gives me that sound. I like my Fenders to be more or less the way they are when they leave the factory.

I'm not so particular about other brands of guitar, I change saddels and stuff like that, and have considered some quite serious mods to some of those guitars.

I've got a Tele style kit guitar that needs to be built, I still haven't got round to doing that but recently I've been thinking about it a lot, so maybe some day soon I'll get going on it.

All of them!

I've never once actually played a Fender which sounded exactly the way I wanted it when completely standard.

They're closer than anything else though, so that's what I've mostly stuck with over the years. Not to mention sheer ease of modding! Just takes a few little tweaks here and there, and I'm happy.

I have a large cupboard full of random bits of Strats I've collected over the years. A couple of years ago, I was rummaging through for some pickups, and thought "Wait, I've probably got enough in here to build a complete partscaster!", so I did. Got two whole guitars out of my spares stock in the end!

Mentioning things we've done to our guitars and basses sometimes inspire others to try something they never thought possible. Then they end up with a whole bunch of spare parts that they can't get rid of

Vulpinity, you've opened a whole ne way of thinking for some of those here. It will be interesting to see what you've started.
