When I buy or sell stuff I prefer to meet at a public place like a Starbucks. I've never had a problem and most people understand I do it for safety reasons. I would say the majority of people prefer to meet at a public place. Today some lady told me it was suspicious that I did NOT want to sell out of my house and gave them the impression that I was selling a stolen item. So which do you prefer???

I always meet in a public place to complete a Craigslist transaction, and my wife does the same. Better to be safe than sorry. The only time I make an exception is for a very large, expensive item like an amp. Something the prospective buyer would need to try out before purchasing.

I would never agree to meet with anyone I contacted through craigslist anywhere but a public place. If it were a guitar or something like that I'd probably meet them at guitar center. That way I could try the gear, and there would be a bunch of people around.

Public place...you don't want to be "Anonymous Victim #13" found in a crawl space eleven years later.

...and even if it weren't that extreme, do you want a stranger in your house, taking stock of your valuables? Unless you never leave or you live in Fort Knox, you might come home to an empty house.

Police station - precinct #7 - they even allow use of their lobby!

Public place whenever possible. I've gone to a place or two and once had someone come to ours, not preferrable but sometimes it's just how it goes.

I have met in public places, at my home, and at the home of others. No issues to this point.

Well we don't have it in the UK but if it was me it would have to be a public place. Remember that incident in the States a while back where these people answered an ad went to someone's house and robbed and murdered them? scary stuff.

I've tried to buy three different, all three time they sold it out from under me. I'd definitely go public.

Well we do have it in the UK, and I've met people through it.

CraigsList in Manchester, England

And for Gorgon:

CraigsList in Glasgow

I don't sell, but when buying don't mind weather it's in a public place or someone's home. You guys all seem paranoid.

I don't imagine they'd be too pleased if I tried to take my piano into Starbucks to do the handover :D

There are people who answer CL ads just to case your home or neighbors. Better safe than sorry. I have guns and a 110 lb doberman. But I don,t ask for trouble.
