i know how to work a slide, i use mine on my acoustic all the time. what im saying is, do you need thick strings, high action etc to get it to work properly? cause it aint working on my tele and its got really thin strings and a really low action. when i do use it on that it its not clear enough. ive read somewhere that you do need a reasonably high action, im not sure on this though. im not sure on the thick strings either

any help would be great

the "high action" is just to keep the strings from fretting when you play slide. it's not nessisary to raise it too high so it's hard to play normally. just raise it enough to play both styles. some actions are set at 1/8 inch, that would be low and might be too low to play slide properly. teles are great to play slide on. don't be afraid to raise it a bit so you are comfortable with it. it's one of those things you have to experiment with. check out Rory Gallagher playing "Souped up ford" on youtube. i think you will find it insparational.

You could try one of these nut raisers for a few bucks.

It's possible to play slide with a low action. You just need a light touch, also a flat radius fretboard works best.

Playing slide is always a compromise between getting the full tone of the slide work and being able to fret notes easily.

Here's one on ebay.

There's a few others. Just do a search for "extension nut" in musical instruments.

Sounds like you might have 9's on the guitar right now... way too light for slide.
I have my tele set to factory spec on the action, but I also have 11's on it. (I set the guitar up with the 11's when I changed it up from 10's).
As far as playing, I find the 11's are easier than the 10's. I don't have to bend them as far to stretch up to the extra note.
I use a glass slide on it, or a light brass one. If you use a heavy slide you wind up hitting the frets.
The heavier strings give the tele a nice fat tone too, and they're strong enough to keep the slide away from the fretboard.

yeah im 90% sure its 9's. i dont want a to fat tone, i like it skinny and sharp. ao maybe i'll try 10's first, i'll see how that goes.
