If you want a fast method that doesn't damage the wood underneath and is friendly to the environment and the user, use dry-ice or sodablasting.

From the worst photographer in the galaxy, here are some of the parts that have come in for the project, still waiting on a few more ie: pickguard, pots, capacitor, jacks, wire. Thought as I'm redoing the white P-bass I should modify the electronics on the black P-bass to try and up-grade it's sound. My question is should I use some type of shielding inside the cavity?

Don't show this pic to Twelvebar - he'll tell you off! :D

Good to see this thread back on top - it's been a while! Shielding? Yeah, but don't get crazy. Just my humble opinion.

Cheers mate!

Rosweood or maple?

8)

Seriously though: I have no idea.

Copper is a good conductor, that's all I know.

Hope it helps - Better ask guys like Martian or other electronics wizards like AndyBigHair. They might be able to give you some proper scientific results. Cheers!

It's cool Bro. 8) If one of the electro-Bros doesn't look in before the thread hits page bottom I will ask-em directly.

A bump, hoping for a suggestion, would chrome shielding tape work as well as copper shielding tape?

Use the Copper tape and if planing on doing more instruments buy the shielding paint.

If you want RF/electrical pulse shielding, you want real copper metal, not unknown quality mild steel with a 'chrome' plating on it.

Copper is electrically superior.

John, seismic, thank you Bros!
I am going to get the copper shielding tape for this project.
What started out as a one bass guitar project has become a 2 bass guitar project as I am re-doing the electronics on my black P-bass as well.

Sounds like you are having fun doing the work yourself which adds to the satisfaction when playing them. :D

Ceri, I haven't started paint stripping yet. I have all of the tools, heat gun, sandpaper (different grades), soldering pencil, electrical solder and tape, dramel grinder (is that what it's called), most of the parts and replacement neck, but I'm waiting for a few more parts and a pick-guard. I'm still a little shy about stripping the paint but am warming up to the idea and should start soon, lol.
