Was looking through craigslist and saw this guitar. I thought it was kinda weird and decided to share.

A heavy SG, who woulda thunk?

As I remember it and I could be wrong, Dean briefly came out with a line of acrylic knock-offs of popular guitars around 6 years ago or so.

Nowadays, people tend to throw around the word, "rare" if they personally never saw much of a given item and/or it is more than 10 years old, regardless of the reality; it is merely "rare" to them. Notice the prevalence of this especially when someone tries to sell something that for whatever reason, the item they are trying to unload doesn't show up a lot at sale and trade forums. For example, is a 2002 set of Fender strap buttons screws really "rare"?

That's a great behind the scenes video. The guy who was selling the'rare'gutar made absolutely no mention about how the guitar sounds, which makes me kind of wary that it iss most likely a dog to hear and play.A guy I used to Jam with many years ago had an acrylic guitar,an Ampeg I believe and I think that the pup(s ?)was/were either slideable or interchangeable.

I had one one them, it was a Dan Armstrong. Dan was Ampeg's chief engineer at one time. The pickups slid in and out and where held in place by a thumbscrew. There was one for rhythm and one for lead. The guitar was quite heavy.

How did it sound, though?
How was the sustain?
Did the thick Plexiglas resonate well?
I've always been curious about those Dan Armstrong (and the later Ampeg reissue) axes, but never had the opportunity to play one.

There was nothing really remarkable about it other than the heavy weight and the fact that the lead pickup did scream. The neck was wide and thin. Larry DiMarzio had warned me that the body was too heavy for the neck and that the wood near the bolts holding the neck to the body would start splitting. He urgently recommended that I unload the guitar before it happened. I did and sure enough, the neck started splitting by the bolts within two weeks thereafter.

This guy's guitar sounding amazingly good,as a matter of fact he played it a few times for a local TV series that his band did called The Wonderful Grand Band, which was of course the name of the band. These guys made quite a name for themselves in the late 70s with their show that was broadcast across Canada and they toured with an entourage of comedians. The complete series of the show is now out in DVD and the band's album Living in a Fog has been released in CD form and is well worth checking out.Sandy Morris-the guy with the Ampeg plays some incredible guitar on it especially on the title song, which is a real heavy rocker and they also do a song called Susie that's absolutely beautiful. The original hit song by the lead singer Ron Hynes became an international hit for several singers around the world,it's called Sonny's Dream. The song became so popular in some places that people were under the false impression that it was traditional.
