Can you guys help me with this problem I'm having?

My Fender Strat has a tremolo bridge, so whenever I try to tune it a half step down, I tune all the strings BUT, when I tune the last one, the first one is totally out of tune again.

My guitar teacher said this happens because of the tremolo bridge but he couldn't give me any tips so I could tune my guitar the way SRV tuned his.

What would you guys suggest? I'd really like to experiment new things with the Eb tuning.

Thank you for your time and help!

Hi rod, this is perfectly normal. Unless you have a dedicated Eb tuned guitar, you will always encounter this each time you go back and forth from E to Eb. You have to tune all your strings a few times in a row to bring your guitar perfectly to pitch. On a correctly tuned guitar, the bridge is perfectly balanced between the strings and the springs. If you remove or add tension to the strings, the bridge will react because of the springs. Try this, tune your guitar, then play an open string and bend the string above or below. You will hear the string you played go slightly out of pitch. This is normal because of the way Strats are constructed.
So you have the choice, buy a dedicated Eb guitar, or tuned her the number of times it takes to bring it to perfect pitch. Usually three to five times are needed every time you change pitch.
Don't restrain yourself to do it, it's fun to play in Eb. Hendrix and SRV stuff is so cool.

I found this on here somewhere, can't remember where, maybe the Strat Forum, but where ever it came from I am exteremly happy I found it and thank you to whoever posted it. It has cleared up all the tunin' and intonation problems I had with my Strat and I can work the vibrato arm as much as I want and still stay in tune. Now when I take it out of the case, if it's not spot on, it only takes a minute or two of tweakin' and I'm off to the races :D Has anyone else tried this and if so, has it worked for you?
