The little woman gave me a new HP model 2000 340CA for Christmas and it has been a source of trouble and frustration since day one,I should have known, she bought it from Sears and if I had known that she was going there I would've talked her out of it.I should have sent the POS back when the battery refused to keep a charge after 2 weeks. The bloody thing has a mind of its own and will go to another website while I'm typing something or turn everything blue and clear the screen when I try to correct it,it will also clear the screen for no reason while I'm typing.I'm especially careful not to inadvertantly hit another key by mistake but the useless brute of a thing still does it.This was the first time in 6 years that she didn't buy me a guitar-I guess this is what happens when you break a tradition, lol.I had asked for a Tech21 RotoChoir for Christmas which was less than half the price of the computer. My only fear now is that Sears will credit our account rather than issue a refund-that's not something that I'll stand for because then I'd be obligated to spend the money at Sears again and as far as I'm concerned Sears sucks largely because they avail of sweatshops and that's why I never buy anything there.

If I charged you $15 for it the way it's working now,I'd be ripping you off.The POS is going rightback to Sears and if they don't give me a cash refund the store manager is going to get an HP suppository.

It's brand new and Blinkers-who is an IT expert and computer programmer- has done a lot of trouble shooting on it but it still keeps on malfunctioning.I don't need this kind of agro,I have absolutely no time for shoddy products so I'm going to send it back and if they offer me the same make as a replacement I'll refuse it because this POS is so plagued with problems that I'll never have anything to do with another HP product-except HP sauce.lol.

I mean, I'd probably let my boss take a looksy. If he couldn't do anything, I'd send it to our friend who has been working with PCs pretty much since they came out.

Sears is the retailer. HP is the manufacturer and they are the guilty party here.

My previous laptop was a "premium" 17" laptop and with less than a year of ownership, the junker died. HP refused to help me other than to tell me the cost for parts and labor exceeded what it cost to buy a new one and they refused to give me any credit towards a new one. I blew it up and bought a MacBook Pro and never looked back.

HP used to make great stuff. Now it is all cheap junk - computers, calculators, test instruments, etc. are all junk.

I'm guessing your motherboard went bad, considering it's the most important part of the computer, and they also tend to go with age/use/other variables. It's very costly to replace, also to install. The only thing I can think of that competes in price for labor alone is having a new charging port properly installed, which can run upwards of $300, depending on the laptop. I hate it when I ramble on in geek talk that nobody cares about

My laptop is a HP, and about two years after having it the battery stopped charging, but that happens when you leave them plugged in constantly. It also had a slight issue with overheating (code for melted itself a bit).

Most of what you're describing, other than the battery, sounds like a software issue, which isn't that much to do with hp or sears.

I'm not planning on getting a hp again, because they make mostly printers and printers never work. That's my reasoning for them making sub-par computers.

I leave both of mine plugged in constantly. They've got great battery life. My main laptop is 6 years old.

The main one lasts about 2 and a half hours unplugged, which is decent, considering the max I've seen was 4 with a Macbook.

The battery packed it in after less than 3 weeks. With regards to software,my buddy has done piles of work on this thing trying to get it to perform right. If anyone knows computers it's him,he's the IT expert/computer programmer for one of the largest conglomerate companies in Newfoundland. He's installed sophisticated anti-virus and firewall protection plus a load of other technical things that are beyond my comprehension. Anyway for some strange reason this SOB is performing pretty well like it should tonight.I knew that the thing had a mind of its own because it must have heard my multi-syllable cuss words last night and the threats to send it back.

Hope this is still working for you guitslinger but I would have been mad at HP not Sears. I am hooked on Mac's now days cost more but worth it.

Asus started out making motherboards...these days their laptops
are right up there with the best of them for machines running windows.

I do some IT geek work and know enough to be dangerous...lol.

HP is getting out of the PC manufacturing business or has sold it's
mfg to some other company I've heard.

Good luck!

PS - Microcenter has refurbed Macs for decent $
