Can you buy replacement keys for the SKB tele/strat TSA cases or go to a locksmith and get one made? I got a guitar in the mail today and am not sure it contains the key :?, it's unlocked though. :) Image

I have two Hiscox hard cases, and for us to see if it's possible, I locked my friends Gator hard case with one of my keys. It works, and I can unlock it too. To be honest, the locks are more of a deterrent-you can unlock them with a finger nail, but if someone sees you trying to unlock a hard case with a finger nail, they would be suspicious. Thats what the locks are there for, at least with the hiscox and gator cases.

If I were you, I would get a locksmith to make one, and I would also see if it is possible to open your case with a small key or finger nail-just to see how secure it is, because it would be useful to know that.

Good luck!

Turns out it came with 2 keys  ! I'd just got the guitar and had only opened it for 20 seconds to peek as it was acclimating. I thought the key would be attached to the outside.

There are seven keys in the TSA key lock set system. 001-007 The case comes with TSA 002 keys. You can buy a luggage lock with keys that will open your guitar case. Just make sure you buy the one that says 002 on it. The numbers are on the bottom of the lock.

I have! The keys were in a clear plastic bag tied to the handle with a gold colored string!

When I read the post, I thought..."huh? ...a key in the lock?" Today, while reading your post, I remembered a case I got that had the keys attached to the handle, on the outside of the case! I think it was an ESP/LTD case.

I am also interested in the answer to you question. One of my lock broke during a recent flight, and I am hoping that I can find a replace part.
Good luck.

The SKB website has the TSA 002 keys for $2.00 and $2.54 for shipping. Just ordered mine.

The whole point of the TSA keys is that they are standardized, so the airport workers will have the key to inspect the contents and be able to lock it up afterwards. IMO it's pointless because the keys are standardized.

As with any lock, it keeps the honest people honest and (slightly) slows down the dishonest.
