With regard to Hendrix LLC :Janie hendrix is defiling and desecrating Jimi's memory in every way and making him into being a commodity moreso than a musician. She rules his interests with an iron fist and shuts down anything to do with him that doesn't put money in her pockets. Not only is she not a blood relation of Jimi, she barely knew him despite what she claims.I don't know what kind of mental state Al Hendrix-Jimi's father-was in when he signed over the control of his estate to her rather than one of Jimi's 4 siblings but it always seemed very suspect to me.I guess I'll find out more when I finish his brother Leon's book.I'm sure that Jimi would be horrified if he had known that she would somehow wrangle control of his entire legacy and what she's doing with it.Jimi would've wanted his music shared by everyone who liked it and would certainly be more altruistic about it than his "step sister" is.

Please!

The previous handlers of Jimi's music ruined it in horrible ways, and let's face it, it has always been more about "them" making money for their greedy little selves. Splitting it up into various crappy compilations, the sound quality sucked, using studio musicians that didn't play with Jimi on any of the songs that were released, on and on. Compared to the stuff that Janie has released, the previous stuff was sorely lacking. The absolute best of Hendrix has been released since Janie got control. Say what you will, but the only thing that I care about is, we are finally getting Hendrix' music in all it's glory. My favorites have been the live stuff, warts and all, presented in mostly the original order, and not effed up like the previous releases. I say kudos to Janie for the great job with the recordings. Bringing in Eddie Kramer for the remastering shows that she is into doing a great job with Jimi's music more-so than making the most money that she can. I have "archived" many of the original releases, and replaced them with the much better and more complete versions released by Janie.

I agree.
Alan Douglas did a lousy job with the Hendrix catalog.

I just missed seeing Jimi in Cincy in March of '68 because I was grounded by my mom & dad for skipping school. My hippie cousin had moved from Port Arthur TX (she knew Janis Joplin) to CA, and here to Dayton where her aunt had moved after leaving Texas.

She would write 'sick' notes for me, I was skipping school. I was a senior, just 17yrs, but already had all my credits to graduate. She did take me to meet Janis in Cleveland, but that's another story.

I know Seymour Duncan and he told about winding a set of pickups and installing them in one of Jimi's guitar at the Cincy show.

still looking for the New Year 1969 Band of Gypsys full concert video:

There really isn't that much, most of the footage on the BOG DVD is all there is, Blom had 53mins of footage of the 1st show, and Vasuka shot 29mins of footage of the second show on videotape.

The 16mm color footage was shot by Amalie Rothschild, she was there to shoot only pictures but ended up shooting short segments of the concert due to the fact that she only had one roll of film.

C :D ool story thanks for sharing. :D

I saw Jimi at Devonshire Downs in 1969...and he blew me away. Realizing what a "great" guitarist he was, I lowered my expectations, with my guitar skills, of the likelihood of becoming a famous rock star. Also, in retrospect, so fortunate to witness him, since his days were numbered. I have a Beta format video tape from a concert he played in Berkeley on Memorial Day, 1970. Though I have held on to an old Sony Betamax player (stored in my garage), I haven't played it in many, many years....yes, I know, newer technology versions available. http://www.classicposters.com/Albert_Collins/poster/Other_California/DDC.1969.06.20

I have friends that were also at the Devonshire Downs concerts. My understanding is it was a two day gig. That Jimi came on the first night so stoned that he couldn't play and it was the worst concert they had been to. The second night Jimi was on top of his game and it was the best concert that they had ever been to. I was invited to see Jimi in Greenwich Village in '68 and I passed because I had been traveling and needed the rest. I never did see him and I kick myself till this day.

I saw Hendrix July 5, 1970 at Miami. He was so Right On that night, it was incredible. I saw a couple of other times from backstage as well. He truly was the Master. RIP.

Unfortunately, I was born 5 years after Hendrix's passing so I never got to see him play live. However I do have a four CD box set: Jimi Hendrix STAGES ( Stockholm '67 / Paris '68 / San Diego '69 / Atlanta '70)

It shows the evolution of Hendrix' live sound from pop music to prototype/early heavy metal.

STAGES has long been out of print but if you find it, you should get it.

Although I have Stages, that is one that I hope Janie releases in better condition than it is now.

I'm going to post the link for this video in the hope that it won't disappear. Many young up and coming guitar players ask me what they should be doing to gain the confidence with a guitar that Jimi displayed so professionally on stage and I try in the most diplomatic of ways to explain that wood shedding for hours each and every day brings the confidence necessary to take your playing to the level needed. I did that through my early teens and by 1967 I could not play loud enough to get my guitar message across. Jimi was that inspiration. Take heed and get to work:

One of my all time fave Hendrix tunes played forwards.
That was a bit crazy backwards-reversed the 1st time I heard it that way, SBLS.
Thanks for posting it today.
