My daughter's boyfriend who knows what an absolute Hendrix Freak I am,has given me two original pieces of Hendrix Memoriabilia that he got on the Internet, both have certificates of authenticity.First is a ticket to Woodstock for the last day-the one that Jimi played at.The next is a playbill from a concert that Jimi did at The Shrine Auditorium-in L.A. I imagine-and appearing on the same bill was Soft Machine,Electric Flag and Blue Cheer. Both are in absolute mint condition-the ticket was locked in a safe with dozens of others after the gates of the Woodstock Concert were breached and the playbill must have been in a glass case at the concert venue and put away for safe keeping right after the concert. The poster board is as stiff as it was on the day it was made and just shows signs of yellowing around the edges.

Sorry to high jack. I saw Joplin in Cleveland. I'll bet we were at the same show. The Hell's Angels filled the front row. After they moved the actual ticket holders out.

Was that show at the convention center? I didn't see the commotion down front because I was backstage!

My mom's best friend, whom we called 'Auntie' was from Port Arthur TX, Janis' hometown. Her niece came to live with her here in Dayton, OH, she was the first black 'hippie' I had ever met. She went to school with Janis, and sang with her in the choir.

At that time Port Arthur was a really racist divided town, Janis' father and most of the town folks gave her heck for hangin' around the colored people. My 'cousin' left TX when Janis did and also when to CA.

She read in a underground newspaper that Janis was playing in Cleveland and asked me to go, I was 18yrs, she was 25yr than. She tried finding where the band was staying, but couldn't so we parked near the loading door. We were there quite a few hours waiting when the van carrying the band arrived.

My cousin saw Janis and blew a wolf-whistle and yelled "Hey B*tch", Janis immediately called us over, gave my cousin a really long hug, hugged me and invited us in with her and we stayed for the show.

I'm guessing the show I went to was in '68. I doubt it was the convention center, seems like it was one of the old vaudville theaters Cleveland still had at the time. But, my memory from that period is hazy as the world was exploding in front of my eyes just about every day. I would have been 17.

Amazing what you can find on youtube if you can just think of the parameters. While back I typed in "Hendrix, Portland, 1968 September". Someone recorded some of the concert I went to (no film)! Okay.... so then tried "Hendrix, May 25 1969 Santa Clara" ( I think that is what I typed...). Was a 3 day rock festival I went to before it was trendy. It was said that was the last time he played with original band (please don't burst my bubble!). Someone got most of that too. He was God that Sunday (maybe it was the free LSD that was given, rumored to be donated by Jimi?). Audio again only. Interesting thing happened: the main PA went out, so he just (just?) had his stacks. Jimi took it in stide and started ping ponging off the grandstands that were maybe 1/4 mile back.... natural delay.
Ah those were the days..... Now to see if they have the last time I saw, which was up in Seattle in the rain. Think that may have been last US concert....

No matter how many times I listen to Jimi's recordings they always sound new and fresh. Somehow I always manage to hear something in a cut that I never noticed before, that's sure proof of his amazing virtuosity and how intricate his music and playing was.

They speak of Jeff Beck being able to make a guitar talk and Eric Clapton being able to make a guitar cry,but Jimi was the only person who could do all that plus he was the only person who had the ability to bring a guitar to orgasm.
