Well it seems Guitar Hero and Rock Band have really dropped off in popularity, I never cared if people played them or not... But it is good to see them go out of fashion... Kind of an insult to real musicians...

Well, 4 years ago, I saw an actual shredder play. Didn't miss a "note"

I have a Guitar Hero game and make no apologies about enjoying it for what it is... a game. I harbour no delusions that playing Guitar Hero made me a guitar player... but it was fun, in a karaoke kinda way. I do agree that Guitar Hero is dying (if not already dead), since I got Rocksmith I don't think I'll ever play GH again.

i could never play either of the games

people would talk about how they could get top score on songs like sultans of swing/black magic woman.

its good that it is gone. people should have started to play real guitar in the first place.

I personally enjoyed the game.

Did it compare to playing an actual guitar? No it did not.

Was is it fun to play? Absolutely

Did it get others interested in guitar? Yes it did. Because of me playing guitar and because of guitar hero, my daughter now has an actual guitar and is getting more interested in it.

Don't see how this is a bad thing. Besides, it's just a game.

The Guitar Heroes etc. thing was a double edged sword,on one hand it may have gotten some kids interested in the real thing but then again many got really good at the games and figured that real guitar would be a cinch too, only to be bitterly disappointed.

 these video games are to music what "Wiffle ball" is to baseball:

"Wiffle ball or wiffleball is a variation of the sport of baseball designed for indoor or outdoor play in confined areas. The game is played using a perforated, light-weight, rubbery plastic ball and a long, plastic (typically yellow) bat."Image

they're not here. but i wish they were.
for me, its quite (?) pathetic to think that most kids these days find rock music from video games like guitar hero, and listen to it purely to fit in with 'pop' culture. if i ever made a album, and the creators of guitar hero were offering me big $$$ if one of my songs were to be featured on that game. i'd say no. i'm sorry, i dont wanna bunch of sissy ar5e 'kewl' teenagers who keep up with gossip and dont even bother to look up from the their phones listening to my music. i'd move to antartica and isolate myself in a 10 meter thick concrete cube 5 meters underground if that happened. people like that, in my opinion, ruin rock music by giving it a whole other definition. they say, 'oh, did you hear that i got 98% on sultans of swing? that song is so awesome cause its on guitar hero warriors of rock'.
i've always had a strong hatred of those games, for many other various reasons.

The game may have gotten a few kids interested in music they might not have heard otherwise, and a few kids started playing a real guitar because of the fun they had with a fake one...but overall, I always thought it was a bit lame.

That may have been because I couldn't play the game worth a dang...I would instinctively start trying to play chords or licks, as opposed to pushing the right button. Oh well... :?

Those older games really had nothing to do with playing guitar. They merely used a controller shaped like a guitar. The new ones such as Rocksmith use an actual guitar. YOUR guitar. I got the game at Christmas and have played it some. I can’t say it’s as addicting as Call of Duty but there’s a lot of potential there for that type of technology. The game is not set up to teach you how to play guitar. It’s more about playing the game. It is what it is…a video game. My problem is I start out playing the game but ultimately I end up just jamming on my own. (It has some really cool amps and effects to noodle with.) There’s a bit of a latency issue, but the software works quite well at recognizing your ability level as well as the notes you play. The better you get, the harder it gets. It’s kind of a high tech form of tablature that is actually pretty cool. They just need to give you more control over it. You can only pause or restart. You cannot slow it down or rewind. It would make a great teaching tool, laid out in a “learn at your own pace” format.

I get a kick out of seeing teens and grown adults wanking away on little tiny plastic guitars with buttons on them. I think it's hilarious. Add the tiny little drums and it's golden! My Nephews ore in their 20's and do the whole band thing. They're pretty big guy too. I laugh my arse off watching them.

My kids left a pile of those plastic guitar games in our basement for their kids to play when they visit :)
One of their kids is now trying to learn the real thing, gave her my old fender cd60ce to get started with, not sure if it was the plastic games that got her interested or seeing a house full of "music" paraphernalia ever time they came over :)

I did pick up RockSmith and it is not bad to waste some time with.

My one nephew is trying to learn guitar, but he can't find the buttons on the real one. He did a lot better with the game, but at least he's trying.
