If your store is a Fender dealer they should contact the area rep. to come look at your instrument and verify that it is a warranty defect.

The area rep. would authorize a return of the part and Fender, in theory, sends you a replacement within 90 to 120 days.

My 2008 American Standard Strat had a warped neck. A Fender Dealer, not even the one I bought it from, called the area Rep and he came and verified the warrenty issue. That was last October, I am still waiting for the warranty replacement neck.

Go back to the store, as them to contact the area Fender Representative to come look at the guitar. If the store is unwilling to do so, never buy anything from them again. Take it to the nearest authorized Fender Dealer and see if they will get the area rep for you. Be ready for a long wait. I hope your not depending on this instrument to make a living, because Fender is slow about this!

Why DOES everybody seem to bash GC? I've never had a bad experience with them. Knock on wood.

I bought an amp from them once. After a week at home with it I decided I didn't like the way it sounded. They took it back, no questions asked and refunded my money.

When I bought my American Special from them, I found Best buy had the same axe, same price a week later and was also offering a free wah pedal with the purchase. I took the ad into the store and they matched it by giving me a free wah. A better one than what BB was offering btw.

Maybe I've been lucky but I have to say I have been thoroughly please with my local GC.

So I gotta know, what's up with the bashing? Not looking to pick a fight, just would like to be enlightened.

Bump!

Still would like some insight here as I buy a lot of gear from GC and curious if there is something I should know. :?

You know I never volunteered to be a GC apologist, but I guess I am going to have to defend them...

Guitar Center didn't do anything wrong here... No guitar vendor is going take back a guitar when the return period has expired... I think you can chalk that one up to bad luck...

Why the hell would you sell a used guitar back to Guitar Center ? Its like selling it back to a pawn shop or any other brick and mortar store that makes a profit off of buying and selling used gear. If you are getting more than 50% of the cash value of any item in this manner, you are doing good... Selling used gear to GC or a Pawn Shop is simply financially foolish... Try craigslist or ebay... much better option...

ummm...I guess you didn't read the fine print of my post, I got 85% of the actual cash value of the used guitar I sold to them. No pawn shop would ever give you anything close to that kind of money for a used guitar!

I went back to GC to sell them a used guitar because I'd rather let them sell the guitar and pay them a 15-25% commission. I do not like dealing with ebay, craigslist, etc. To me, it's worth the 15 to 25% to not have to sell somebody a guitar.

Selling a used guitar to GC is a bright idea if you know the value of your instrument, treat them with respect and courtesy, and you know how to make a deal!

And, I've had a vendor take back something they agreed was so defective, it was not fair for me to have paid them money for it -- it's called "the lemon law".

I've only had a warranty issue with one Fender guitar that I bought, mind you that was years ago but they honored the warranty.I bought a Strat with a maple fretboard and it was a fabulous guitar but after about 6 months a warp appeared on the neck and got progressively worse and in just a short time the guitar was unplayable.I brought the guitar back to the store where I bought it-which was owned by a good buddy of mine-and he called Fender and told them about the neck, they had a new one shipped the next day.

I work at a guitar store which carries Fender. We have a no return policy for guitars (not uncommon among Mom & Pop stores), but we are an authorized warranty center for all of the guitar brands we carry. Exchanging guitars is a pain in the backside (it's hard enough just sending back the ones that don't meet our standards), but we've worked with customers and the manufacturers in the past to resolve warranty issues.

Basically, the company sends replacement parts and pays for the repair. It's happened at least twice with Fender that I can recall. Once, a pickup needed replacement and another time it was a neck issue and in both cases Fender sent us the replacement pickup and the replacement neck and our tech tool care of the rest. And neither of these guitars were bought from us. My best advise to you would be to find a certified Fender warranty center, explain your problem to them and ask their manager or tech to get directly in touch with Fender for you. It's not a difficult process at all.

When the American Specials came out, I was G.A.S.sed for a new Precision in red with a maple neck. Went to a Guitar Center and was greatly disappointed, the finish was poor, the tone was bad. While there, I played four others, Jazz and Precision, only one looked good, all of them sounded bad. I went to another Guitar Center, just to see if perhaps I hit a bad run of them, same thing. Now before someone goes off on me, I'm comparing them to American Standards, which I feel is fair considering they are so close in price.

I've had good and bad experience with Guitar Center. My policy was to always play a guitar before I bought it, My philosophy has changed, thanks to Guitar Center. I buy from Sweetwater now. In the past 6 weeks or so, I've made three purchases and am completely satisfied. My lovely wife got me a Strat for Christmas, it came with the best set up I've ever had on a guitar, my experiences with them have been great.

I hope to see your problem has been solved in the near future. That sucks.

Sorry to say it, but Quality Control EVERYWHERE has gone to the dogs. It's all about production and record numbers. I've been in Q.C. longer than the majority of Forum members have been alive, it's the new trend, so, buyer beware!

Your dilemna is bad indeed. I guess without seeing a photo of the actual problem I'm not sure if I can say you would have seen it on inspection or not.

If Fender isn't owning up to it than yes that does suck. I guess when you are brand loyal you'd hope they would back up ANY issue with quality control. I've never bought a new Fender so I've never had to deal with this, all of mine were purchased used on Ebay or CL.

I've dealt with GC and had great experiences, and Musicians Friend as well.

I do know that the local music store here, the only one for 100 miles, is a registered Fender dealer and they are total crap. I've tried to buy from them when in the market for a new bass amp but they refuse to take any trade and their prices were very high, forced me into a 1 1/2 hour drive to GC.

If my name was Fender and I was in charge I'd think this is the stuff I'd like to see addressed to the customer's satisfaction. Good luck mate, sounds as if some on here have some helpful advice.

Again, 90 to 120 days for warranty replacement, that is what the service rep told me in email from Fender Headquarters.

In these matters it helps to hold ones "cool," Being angry and ugly does not grease the process, it only jams the works. Thats human nature.

UPDATE: Someone from Fender called today, told me to take it back to Jeff's. I had to prove the the tech at Jeff's that I was in fact telling the truth. They say once they get a slip, they will ship back the guitar, and I get a new one. I also learned why so many stores are dropping their man. warranty service, because the price the tech gets paid to do the repair is so little it is not even worth it... I am not really sure why Fender did not say this in the first place, I guess you have to send three emails, two phone calls, and post a rant on their facebook page before something gets done. The main thing is I am just glad it is over and Fender is finally owning up to their mistake. Fender is a great guitar company, and I really like Fender guitars, both image and sound...I hope their CQ does not continue to falter.. because I will be back for more...

Glad to hear you got something moving in a positive direction. I really hate to see the trend of manufacturing hitting Fender. Make them faster and faster, using the lowest cost materials available.

I'm a Fender snob, all my guitars are Fenders and should I buy any more, they'll be Fenders too.

Anxious to see your happy post when you get a good guitar.

Recently I've seen Loren Howard of Fender commenting in the Mustang and Bronco Forums. He's very interested in peoples satisfaction and has been available with answers. I had a very small issue with My new Mustang amp and call Fender. They were great in the way they solved my dilemma.

I hope you'll be praising their efforts too in the near future.

Let us know how quickly you get the new instrument. Hopefully they will not pull the 90 to 120 day line one you.
