Pretty good imo. Although the vocals aren't my favorite.

I enjoy Sponge. Rotting Pinata is my favorite album atm.

Even though we disagree about Keef, I don't think you're a troll.

One of the unfortunate things about bands like the Stones (or the Fabulous Thunderbirds or ZZ Top or a million other Classic Rock groups) is the fact that their "Greatest Hits" aren't representative of everything they can do.

Yes, Keith is a riff-meister who concentrates on distinctive opening licks and rhythms...but he can play blues, country, jazz and even hard rock (check out the lead lines to "Hold On To Your Hat" from Steel Wheels...he's playing lead to Jagger's rhythm guitar while Ronnie holds down the bottom...and it sounds more akin to an angry Billy Gibbons than anything else).

He's a good pianist and great bassist.

Yes, he has a somewhat narrow worldview in some respects, but when you have that many skins on the wall and you've survived everything he has, you're allowed to be a bit opinionated.

He's blunt, opinionated, cock-sure, revolutionary, and he doesn't care what anyone thinks about him.

...sounds like a punk musician to me.

 and what about every other rock/blues act/band in the world? Eric Clapton has been playing the same way for 40+ years what do you want him to do? suddenly don a massive effects board and start playing an EBow through a Digitech Whammy because it's different?

^^ This is just silly. So he's not great he's influential, and why is he influential? because he's great.

"That make him influential. The Stones, along with a certain other band from that era that I don't think I even have to name, have been elevated to some false god-like status,"

Keith is cool. He's probably the last one to think about himself being a god. I don't think he is, but he is cool.

EC is not god either, contrary to 45 year old popular opinion. He is a cool blues rocker who happened to put out a pretty good accoustic set. He also has done albums with BB King and JJ Cale, so not really one trick pony.

Back on topic, some of the vids on EHX site are really great, the POG has some amazing sounds, the sitar was pretty cool as well. Fun but I probably wouldn't use a lot.

I do wonder what some of the early users of synth's, from the 70's, would have done if they had current technology back then. Would Pink Floyd have been better, or maybe worse with today's tech.

now those lads would have used a POG for sure, and the EHX sitar pedal as well, probably would have looped a few backwards tracks as well.

As far as Floyd's comments go I am basically in agreement. I had a similar debate with some of the old school guys over at the TDP (now RI) about Keef. They all considered him to be a top notch picker. I like Keef (as you can see by my avatar) because he is a straight ahead rock'n roller with great hooks but a great picker he ain't, not even in the slightest. He's just got those hooks. They're great hooks but that's pretty much all he's got. For that kind of music that's all you need.

As far as the POG goes, I have the Eventide Pitch Factor which is all of the POG plus a whole lot more to boot, not to mention it being a lot higher quality piece of gear than a POG. To properly answer the OP (rkr) it's not a valuable tool, it's just a neat toy. I've never found a gig-worthy use for my Pitch Factor and it can do 20 times as much stuff as the POG. It's a lot of fun to play around with and that's about it. About the only semi-gig-worthy thing I was ever able to do with it is get an organ sound. Mixed with a Leslie emulator and a little overdrive you can get some almost Deep Purplish sounds out of it. Still kind of a waste as I've never covered much Purple.

I was looking at the POG 2 and I like it. I am not sure what I would do with it but play around. All my other effect pedals I do use when I am playing, although not at all at the same time. I am sure if I got a POG 2 or some other pitch shifter I would find a use for it. I think for now I am going to put that idea on a back burner for now and concentrate in finishing my Blacktop project. Almost done buying all the new parts, then I will be able to assemble. After that we'll see where I go with the Pitch Shifter quest. I will look into Eventide and and possibly Boss as well.

I did not mean to stir up a heated debate on Keith Richards. Honestly I never saw that one coming...

Hey rk, whenever you have the effects thing you'll always get the for and against and those that like both. I've heard the pedal and it does sound cool really cool.

I like effects too, though most of the time when i play i plug straight in to the amp but effects can be great in their own right if you're into that.

I think my advice would be this: if you like the sound of it and have the funds buy it, you can emulate organ sounds and lots of other stuff with it too.

In the Jan. Guitar Player article on Chickenfoot,Satriani talked about the POG in glowing terms. He said that when he took it out of the box and plugged it in he wrote"Super Collossal"in about 2 minutes without even making any adjustments to the sliders. He says he has each type but he prefers the original. That would be endorsement enough for me. Even though I'm still socking away money from quiting smoking to buy a Rickenbacker Beatle type guitar, things like the POG and Tech21 Roto Choir are very very tempting.

guitslinger, I've seen you mention a few times that you're pining away for a RotoChoir. Since it looks like you haven't purchased one yet I'd like to suggest you also look into the Strymon Lex. It's prolly a little more money that the Tech 21 but I think it's a better sounding unit.

David Gilmour said somewhere on the Live at Pompei film to the effect that it all comes down to whether you are controlling your FX and not the other way around. I believe wholeheartedly in that statement. One guy could use a pog or whatever and just make gargabe with it but the next guy can come along and pick up that same guitar and play through the same set up and find something in the effect to work it and make it sing. I like both types of players. The dude that can just plug a guitar straight in and go and the guy who can do creative things with some of the goodies available.

Thanks for the tip BMW-KTM I will certainly check it out.The Roto Choir has a MSRP of about $279 I believe but most places are selling it for around $220.

Edit: I just gave the Stryman unit a listen and it sounds much like the one on my Vox AD120 which isn't a bad thing. The only thing that wasn't Leslie like with it was that you couldn't have the bottom horn and top rotors moving indepent of each other, both were at the same speed at all times. With the Roto Choir as with a real Leslie you could have the drum rotating slowly while the rotors were rotating fast and vice versa which gave you the dreamy "Chorus" setting. I can honestly say though is that the sound is very very much like a real Leslie and it would certainly save my back from lugging around my old artifact.

No, you can adjust the rotation speeds, rates of acceleration and mic placement of both speakers independently.
