Recently, ive sought out the chance to upgrade my current rig of a Crybaby Wah, Boss DS1 Distortion, and Boss Chorus Ensemble to something with a little more edge: A Russian Big Muff, an Octafuzz, a Cool Cat Fuzz, Tube Screamer, perhaps a Whammy or something more unique like a Phase 90, but I am undecided. What would best further my goal of obtaining a Hendrix/Nirvana/Bluesy sound that i have in my head?

Btw Im playing through a Mustang Modeling amp as well as a small Vox, and I use an SG and a Strat

Maybe an Aqua $@!& or the ZVEX Fuzz Prob? I am going to get the Fuzz Probe next, that pedal is unique and can make some truly insane sounds.

Try an OCD, I can get mine to do overdrive, distortion or fuzz depending on how the gain & volume is set and the LP/HP goes from Fender to Marshall.

I would think about adding a delay pedal to your setup. Very versatile and just adds that extra edge and depth .... when you get it right.

How about a Leslie simulator?

I use the BOSS RT20 and it's the bee's knees...Three different Leslie simulations and a pretty good Uni-Vibe sim.

+1 Agree especially about "when you get it right".

Agree a delay can make an interesting addition!
One of the Boss DD series or MXR carbon copy are not too expensive and work well.

I almost added an old Russian Big Muff then picked the current Bass Big Muff over it.
Russian Big muff does not have a power jack so must use batteries, deal breaker for me.
The current Bass Big Muff has a very similar circuit to the old Russian version.
Also not sure of your amps, the big muffs don't work to well with smaller or solid state amps.
My little mustang-1 freaks out if I try to run my pedal board through it.
If you have a smaller or sold state amp a proco rat or OCD or even a boss bd-1 might work better.

I do have a Boss RT-20 on my second channel, drives an amp all on its own, but I am not to happy with the pedal. Someday will replace it with a univibe.

You might also try a compressor at the start of your chain something like the MXR Dyancomp or Boss CS-1

The Tech21 Roto Choir is about the best Leslie simulator on the market but is a bit pricey at around $220.For info and demos look here: http://www.tech21nyc.com and a good flanger could also add to a good Hendrix vibe, the Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress is a great flanger,I've had mine since 1976 and haven't had a bit of trouble with it. The Danelectro Hash Browns is also a great little flanger and goes for only $70 or so.A flanger combined with a digital delay will give you a wonderful Hendrix sound like he got in Gypsy Eyes and House Burning Down.

Consider a Diamond J Drive, Clean boost and Overdrive 2 step...... Great to change gears twice in your solo's..... And gorgous sustain out of the Overdrive.....Heavier and creamier than a TS, I would say TS 808 but with your amp and music suggestions i'm thinking you want to get a bit growlier than just a TS. A TS is really for a Tube driven amp to boost what's already goin on... Food for thought anyway...

Uni-Vibe. No pedal collection is complete without one. It's only after you have one that you realise everybody is using them.

You need a Uni-Vibe clone (kinda like a rotory speaker). You've got some modulation pedals already, but you need the Vibe for Electric Lady Land tracks and Machine Gun. It can get Bluesy like Stevie Ray and swampy like Creedance. Use it on "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

A Dano Cool Cat Vibe starts at under $50, you can pay $400+ for the boutique pedals or anything in between.
