It is not about beauty, money and fame, when something's going wrong in your life, nothing can prevent the suffering. It is so sad that a gifted girl like her had to endure her suffering in front of the medias, like if the pain in itself was not enough. I hope that she found peace wherever she is now.
Claude.

She didn't make the sort of music I particularly enjoy, but that voice was granted to very few in a generation. It was gorgeous - just gorgeous..

A voice that launched a million wannabees.

Just for "One Moment in Time" alone, I say God Bless, WH..

As for Bobby Brown, what is it about some women and 'bad boys'? I wouldn't lose a moments sleep if someone just strung him up. To hear him now saying how sad it all is, is just too much. He should high tail it out of Dodge and just keep his head down for the next 30 years or so. :x

Yeah...

RIP Whitney. Give us a break, wannabees.

It seems the people who are attracted to the drink and drugs are so often also magnetically attracted to the people who encourage them in those tastes. All part of the same problem, I suspect. Plenty of other similar examples.

Pity.

Cheers - C

Regarding the phenomenon of women being attracted to bad boys:

I think a lot of girls (especially "good girls" who have a wholesome or "clean" outlook on life) like the "danger" of the devil-may-care attitude and the excitement of a person (in this case, the "bad boy") doing what they themselves are too timid or reluctant to do on their own.

Before Lady Armadillo (a life-long "good girl") and I got attached, she dated mostly rich, good looking frat-boy types (none of which matches my profile then or now). They looked wholesome but weren't--in fact, most of them were arrogant, self absorbed trouble makers.
She finally stopped and looked at me (I had been there all along). She later told me that she thought, "Here's a guy who is honest about himself...he's got a wild streak that he doesn't sugarcoat, he doesn't care what people think about him, but he's not a jerk or unkind about it; he's the rare combo of straight and crazy, but he's steady enough to make a life with. He's got the bad-boy trappings (old hot rod car, guitars, etc.), but he is polite to little old ladies and respectful to other people. Now, if we can just do something about those clothes and those sideburns..."  :P

I was "bad boy" enough to pique her interest but "good guy" enough to keep it. Rather than lead her down a wrong path, I made her relax enough to enjoy life. Rather than "make me over" into something I wasn't, she cleaned me up enough to where I no longer looked like a roadie...we balanced each other out.

Unfortunately, most women aren't able to discern and discriminate which bad boy has enough good in him to be a positive match.

Etta James, Don Cornelious, and now Whitney Houston.
That's a lot of soul to leave this earth at once.

A very sad loss to an all too common 'disease' in the industry.

I can understand those who didn't get on with her voice, and for what it's worth I think her style has been too often and too badly copied by far too many - it shouldn't take anything away from her voice though, she was a true master of her 'instrument'.
