I've gone to some in the past but can't remember when they were. I'm trying to get a good deal on a Tele  Shopping locally & posting wanted ads on CL isn't working out.

They happen all the time - any (and I mean ANY) holiday is excuse enough for a Guitar Center sale. Get on their email list and you'll get plenty of info on sales and no shortage of 10-15% off coupons.

But, Fender and Gibson are almost never included in their big sale events, so you might as well just go in and talk them down about 15% since that's all you're going to see during a sale.

Another trick is the trade something in get 10% off the purchase coupons the send out every so often. They will put those towards anything in shop new or used. So if you have a pedal laying around you are no longer using trade it in with the coupon. Sure you might only get $5 for the stompbox, but you can get $100 off the american standard.

Not too long ago I got a one-day 20%-off your total purchase coupon - about the best deal I've ever seen from GC. I think it said stock up on gift items now! So I went in and picked out a bunch of DR strings, a couple of Ultimate guitar stands, picks, a strap, a pick guard and a few other small items. When they ran the coupon through it said that NONE of my "gift" items qualified for the 20% off! I told the boys (I've spent thousands of dollars there) that they better make it work. They did it manually, an item at a time. Even they were dumbfounded that none of my items, most of which would be obvious "gifts" for a guitar player, would qualify.

It helps to be a regular customer, no question about it.

And maybe just because I'm a good regular customer... I've never had any trouble getting the 10-15% off Fender products with a coupon - no restrictions - and still got the 12 Months Same As Cash.

KRAB that was a very good tip!

It is so annoying to get all that spam and then when you read the fine print nothing worth owning is discounted! LOL.

Fun story.
Out of picks. Stop in at GC North Houston. I bought some picks. Needed the picks. Didn't even bother to look at the price, $6 a dozen Fender heavies. Price you pay when you are in a hurry.

Well I get home and see everyone else in the known universe sales them for $2 to $3 a dozen. I print off some of the prices and head back to GC. I walk in and said I last week I bought six dozen picks for $6 and well as you can see you are two to three times higher than everyone. The kid didn't want to do anything and was like well after you pay shipping. I pointed out nowhere does the price match talk about shipping and all of the ads I had shown were free shipping.

At this point I'm pissed. The kid finally goes a Google shopping search and said well the bst price I can find is $3.50 a dozen on Amazon, with shipping (A it would be over $25 so free shipping B I am a prime member so free two day shipping) rings me up and just gives back the difference. No difference plus 10% like the policy just the difference.

On the way out of the store I check in on Four Square tweeting my check in with the Love how they don't want to price match. Later that day I get a tweet from Jeremy Cole. A GC employee in CA. He saw the tweet and wanted to know what happened. I take this chance to unload everything over the last year with GC. The non price match. The Westheimer stunt where all of the EC EB boxes of strings were opened, only to have someone from Houston win one of the trips to see EC at R.A.H.. The not wanting to give me my gig bag for my new Strat. The guys pulling friends out of line to wait on them and then leaving the counter again. Stuff like this.

After a few emails with Mr. Cole the manager from the Westheimer store called and offered some free stuff like cables and picks strings. Something small the next time I'm in. I told him that wasn't really needed. It took almost a month for the manager from the North Houston store to call me. He is going to issue a credit for my troubles. The problem is I'm not a fan of GC and only but stuff from there in a pinch or they are the only people to have what I need. So who knows when I'll ever use my $18 in store credit. Ok end of rant.

I work at Guitar Center, and while that list is mostly accurate, most of our coupons work on any product beside a few select brands. Typically when a vendor opts out of a promotion it only affects items that will be tagged with special promotional price tags. Our email coupons will apply to most items, including those from vendors on that list that was posted. I get people discounts on Fender guitars on a regular basis via our email coupons. Just going in and haggling on the price is not going to be much of an option in the future as GC is now owned by a major corporation and they restrict discounts to coupons, we will very soon have no ability to negotiate in the store. But we will have more coupons going out than in the past. And price matching to regular or sale prices is never a problem.

To answer the original question, the next big promotion is President's day weekend.

That depends on which GC you are in and who is working the counter. I can go in there three times in one day have three different clerks and get three different price match on the same item.

Thanks for that info Tim. I think a no haggling policy is going to put off a few long time customers, like me. I spent an hour today playing item #106722663. Any idea if I can expect to get a break on that item over the Presidents Day sale?
For you that wonder, it's a Les Paul Studio Deluxe '50's, Iced Tea, coil tapped pups, 50's neck. That sucker is sweet and looks as nice as a regular LP.

I haven't seen the deals for Presidents day yet. But I believe a 15% off (up to $500 off) is the typical presidents day coupon. The best thing to do is get yourself on the email list if you're not already. The Studio Deluxe is a popular model; especially in Iced Tea, and I wouldn't expect to see any sales on that particular model due to that fact. A coupon's gonna be your road to the best deal possible, and President's day is just around the corner at this point.
