I always thought Billy Gibbons had some really cool rigs...different amps, different guitars, but he always sounds like himself. His studio setup is supposed to be outrageous, but he's known to spin a yarn so we'll probably never know the truth.

I also always liked SRV's various setups...although he was usually a bit "over-amped" and consequently louder than Hades. But his basic rig has probably served as a primer/starting point for more modern blues guitarists than we'll ever know.

My rig:
1992 Fender '62 US Vintage Stratocaster (heavily modified) -or-
1995 Fender Tele Special (heavily modified) -or-
1980 G&L F-100 (dead stock) -or-
20?? Dean Chrome G acoustic electric resonator -or-
1940's Astatic A200 Harp Mic -or-
Modified Shure SM57 Harp Mic

Into:
(all pedals mounted on/powered by Furman SPB-8 Stereo Pedalboard)
Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner
Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer
Boss RT-20 Rotary Ensemble
Dunlop Original Crybaby Wah (modified)
MXR M-101 Phase 90 (late 70s early block logo w/o LED indicator)
Dunlop JH-2S Jimi Hendrix Classic Fuzz
MXR M-66 Classic Overdrive (modified)
MXR M-133 Micro Amp
Rocktron HUSH Noise Reducer/Feedback Prevention
Lone Wolf Blues Company Harp Break (harmonica overdrive)
MXR M-169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay

Into:
Fender '63 Re-issue Vibroverb amplifier

I do mean the following seriously: I think it doesn't get much more cool than BB King's rig. His simple little old long d/c'd Gibson Lab Series 2x12 combo - and that's pretty much it. One of the most distinctive guitar sounds in history from one of the simplest set-ups. There could be a lesson in there somewhere...

He says he only takes two guitars with him on tour, too.

Cheers - C

PS: if I'm out of date on the exact model of amp then still the principle remains the same.

Roy Buchanan had about the most low budget rig.Roy would travel from gig to gig with just his guitar and would place in his rider that the promoters were to supply Fender Twin amps if at all available and if not some other high powered amp.I know this because when Roy played here in 1976 I had just bought a new Peavey Deuce and it was the first one in the province.A buddy of mine was in the student's union who had booked him and asked me if I'd be so good as to let Roy use my new amp.I,being obsessive about my gear, declined.Roy played the concert and they managed to scrape up 3 Fender Twins,2 of which Roy blew the guts out of.The gym had poor acoustics and concrete walls and he aimed the amps backwards towards the wall and used it as a sounding board. In retrospect I guess I could've lent it to him and most likely gotten him to autograph it but considering the fate of the 2 Twins I'm kind of glad that I didn't.
