Hi,

I´m on the lookout for a 70s style Strat.
But some of the ones i´ve found who´s listed as real Strats from the 1970s are missing the "original contour body" sticker on the headstock.
Does it mean they´re fake?

Gratefull for any help, doesn´t wanna spend money down the drain.

/Gustav

Look for the large peghead (obviously), the contour body sticker, the patent number(s) under the Fender logo....and the early to mid 70's used urethane on the neck, but lacquer on the headstock and logo that ages to a more orange-yellow color than the rest of the neck (if it has been out and played much). Also look for very shallow body contours, like the forearm bevel being far less pronounced than strats of years before and the recent ones. Also, the finishes will be very thick and plastic looking. The bridge will have cast zinc, chrome plated saddles. The whole bridge is a cast unit actually. If the body is ash, it can be horribly heavy! And there were several hardtails released through the 1970's....If in person, you'll know the real thing when you see it. :) I have owned a 1974 model for years, and I love it!

I have a 72 Strat. I'll add that mine has the three bolt Tilt Neck Micro adjustment and the serial number is engraved on the neck plate. It also came stock with a three position pickup selector. And like Steve, I love mine too. It's a great guitar.

Another piece of advice, don't buy it unless you see it and play it in person. Ebay is iffy at best.
