I was looking at my history. I have had some really nice gear I wished I held onto. I also had some impulse buys that I could've lived without. One thing is for sure, I never regret the experience.

There were a couple of things I really regret having done. The rest are minor.

I've lived within 30 minutes of the old Kalamazoo Gibson company (now Heritage) my whole life. I've been a steady working bar room musician for about 30 years. The humorous part is that the majority of musicians in the Kalamazoo area played Fenders for as long as I can remember, still do.
I didn't buy my 1st Fender until 12 years ago. I'd played them though. Up until about 1999 I was the drummer. I was asked to play guitar in a friend's band in '99, so I went to the local music shop and picked me out a Telecaster. I've switched to a Strat since, but still have the Tele.

My Fender History: I don't remember if I had a Strat or a Twin amp first. The Twin I bought used and then sold after I got a little Marshall 100 watt stack. The Strat I bought on Nov. 1, 1976, and still have. A few more Strats (and one Tele) have followed over the years, new and used.

My first Fender product was a '65 non-reverb Deluxe amp, bought in '66. A great rig with my Gibson Melody Maker but it lacked sufficient "grunt" when pitted against a bassist with a Kustom 200 and a keyboardist playing his Farfisa through a Vox Berkeley. I stepped up to a 5F6-A Bassman that some acid-addicted hippie had spray-painted in day-glo green and orange -- the tweed, the cloth, the panel, everything! A few months later that got traded in on a used '64 Concert Amp, my first big blackface. A year later I bought my first "new" Fender amp, a '67 silverface Super Reverb. Five months after that I got my first Fender guitar, a '66 Strat that I purchased from the original owner. Since then, about a hundred Fender amps have passed through my hands -- Showmans, Bassmans, Bandmaster, Champs, Princetons, Vibrolux Reverbs. Nearly every model that Leo ever designed. My guitar tastes changed and I undertook a 30-year dalliance with Gibson's Les Paul. I always had a Strat as a backup instrument but in 2004 I finally "came home", making the Strat my primary instrument. Currently, I own and play nine Strats (one of them a MIJ 12-string edition) plus a Jazz Bass. My Fender amp herd numbers 14......12 of them vintage models, 2 of them re-issue blackfaces.

What a ride!

The VG is a versatile piece of gear you can do some interesting things with.

1980's:
My Dad took me to a guitar shop when I was about 12 or 13. I got an early '80's Fender Lead III that day. It was red and had a dark wood knot above the pickguard. If you see it, let me know. I sold it or traded it in for something else by ~ 1984.

~1988:
Briefly owned an Elite Stratocaster (had these wierd, ski shaped locking things at the nut).
Bowling Ball/Marbelized Strat (yellow/gray type). I can't believe I actually got rid of it. I think I turned these in to pay for rent or something.

1990's
Strat model around early '90's. Followed by a lefty black Stratocaster that I flipped during the same period. Can't remember what happend to them.

~ '97 I got a black California Series Stratocaster.
Early 2000's I got a Blue Flower Stratocaster.
Still have both.
I can't believe I have owned 7 Fender guitars. I wish I would have bought and kept a '60's model strat back then.

Became a Bassist in 2004.
As a Bassist:
2004 - Blue Flower Pbass
2006 - American Vintage '62 Reissue Precision bass
2010- Stumbled upon a still-in-box new 2006 Fender Bass VI - Sunburst
Still have it.
2011- briefly owned a Mustang Bass, but made my funny bone ache every time after playing. Returned for refund as not a good ergonomic fit for me.
A very nice bass, though. Beautiful neck tint. Great tone, too!

You have one of my top "GAS" guitars there--a Bass IV is very high on "the List"...

Beautiful! Congrats...

Learned to play on a my Dad's 60s Melody Maker and a 77 SG. The SG was heavily played and in need of a refret and new pots. We opted to keep it original and I bought a Japanese Epiphone SG when I was a Sophomore in HS for gigging and to take some of the load off the 77 Gibson.
I bought my first Fender when I was a HS Senior, a red SS MIJ Tele. Over the next 10 years I went through a Gibson LP Smartwood, 3 MIM strats, and a MIK Tele with P90s. All were eventually traded. In 07 I bought a Gibson LP Standard which is my current #1. 2008 I bought a new MIA Olympic white/maple Stratocaster which is my current #2.
I use mainly Vox and have only owned one Fender tube combo (DeVille 212) with greenbacks, which is my main amp and a great workhorse.

My first baby was an Epiphone SG and I started playing with friends that had a Fender Strat. I played quite a bit on their guitars and they just felt like they completed my hands. I start growing more and more fond of Fender guitars and started looking deeper into SRV, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, so I just made up my mind to buy my own Fender. I worked during the summer, raised money and bought my first Mexican Fender on December 2011. Couldn't be happier. :D
