I've got a terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. I know it's GAS, Bad Gas, for a Wine Red Gibson Les Paul Standard. For now, you can get one for $1,899.99. I don't know that I can justify the extra $500.00 over a Studio Bonamassa Gold Top. I haven't played either one yet. I guess that should be my next step. before I get to excited over either one. Once I've made up my mind I'm going to have to work on the guilt part of the equation. Some say I'd be as well off with an Epiphone gold top. There about $1,ooo cheaper but they don't say Gibson on the head stock nor do they say USA on them anywhere. At least the Gibson Studio Deluxe guitars are American Made. :? 8)

Go play them both, then you'll know. If you really want a Standard, what's really stopping you? Should you have a REALLY good reason (having too many guitars isn't one of them) Don't even pick up an Epiphone.

You could always blame me, that's what friends are for! :D

My wife gave me the go ahead on the standard Yesterday. I wish she would have argued even a little bit, then maybe I wouldn't feel quite so guilty. Thanks for the kicker. 8)

Sounds like you have Buyer's Remorse... and you haven't even bought the guitar yet. That isn't good! :?

I had Buyer's Remorse once for a few days - non-returnable guitar - but I got over it. 8)

Buyer's remorse is part of the G.A.S. experience, once we get the go ahead to make the purchase, an open display of buyer's remorse is advance damage control. In the lizard part of our brain, it's a self preservation thing.

Recently I made a truly marvelous discovery! If you have someone who appears to be influencing you, it takes 37.23% of the heat off of YOU! (Independent test results supplied by certified Lab results).

Any of you can feel free to use me anytime you'd like. Unless you're within three hours of Pittsburgh. I do have a strong desire to keep all my body parts, and i'm not real fond of pain.

Glad you moved on the Standard, have fun!

Danny, if you get the right one, you won't be sorry you bought an LP. They're great guitars and a different flavor from Strats. Not better, but a different flavor that keeps things interesting. A couple of things to consider. The Standard has an asymetrical neck and is chambered, so it weighs less. The Bonamassa has a chunky '50's neck and is weight relieved, also known as swiss cheesed, so it will weigh a bit more, probably about 2# more. Both of these items are major considerations so try them both before deciding.

One more thing. I'm looking for a Studio now. I played a new one Saturday and the fret edges felt like a serated knife. I know a good luthier could dress these up but it turned me off at first and made me wonder what other detail they weren't paying attention to when they built the guitar. I've since recovered and am still looking one. But be aware, QC seems to be an issue at Gibson these days and you may pick up a guitar that has obvious issues and another will feel like heaven. Don't be afraid of the baked maple fretboards, most guys seem to like them even better than Rosewood.

Go check out what Gibson has to offer. I recently got a Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute Goldtop with P-90's and a SG Jr with a single P-90. GC on both were/are great, both play fabulously, both sound great, and both were under $1,000.00 each!!

BTW: The SG Jr has the baked maple fretboard. I would not hesitate to buy another guitar with this type of fretboard. Highly recommended!!

Chet how would you rate the so called BurstBuckers on that Joe Bonamassa LP as opposed to the p 90's'?

Danny,

Gibson's Burstbuckers are excellent pickups, but I have a true love for their P-90's!! I can recommend both, but my personal preference would be the P-90's.

When you are wanting to check them do this: Take another guitar player with you (or find one at the Guitar Store) and have them play the guitars while you listen. Then play them your self.

Danny,

Let us know what you decide. I've been itching for a Gibson Les Paul. I did notice Epiphone and Gibson both came out with an Ace Freley signature guitar that has features I am looking for in a guitar. There is over $1000 dollar difference in the 2 models. I doubt I'll pull the trigger anytime soon though for a Gibson.

I've had my heart set on a Gibson Les Paul for a long time, and never did as you say pull the trigger. I also have a thing for American Made Guitars. Not so much that there better but that there American. I've played lots of Epiphone 's But the ones that really get my attention are Gibson L.P. Standard or Studio. I'll be figuring that one out in a fue days. Unless I get "Cold Feet" again. :?

----Danny,

I like being able to step back and listen to a guitar. It really helps.

Danny...Gibson Les Paul GAS...now that is some fine gas. I have been GASing for one of their 60s Les Paul Studios with the P-90s (I am like you Chet, love a good ripping P-90) in Honey Burst with the light colored back...but after my recent guitar and amp acquisitions...my Guilt is still slightly outweighing my GAS...I figure by spring or early summer, the GAS will have got me.

Good luck on your search and Chet hope you still digging that backwards gold top!

T2
