I installed pickup covers on my humbuckers last night. Now I am getting feedback with the same gain settings I had prior to installing the covers. Is the increased feedback normal with pickup covers or did I damage my pickups?

I installed them by placing a dallup of silicon on the top of the bobbin, and soldering the sides to the base plate with a small drop of solder.

sounds like you'r standing too close to the amp at loud volume , how high is the gain you mention ? is the feedback when you play or when you stop playing ? cheers

the settings and the position where I stand are the same prior to installing the covers. feedback occurring when not playing. Also notice it if I really crank the gain, but was never an issue before I installed the covers.

As much as I hate too, I think and am going to remove them, scrape off the silicon and try the electrical tape method.

One thing I noted is the outer holds on the covers don't line up exactly but not sure if that makes a difference.

you might want to wax dip the pups , you might be getting microphonic feedback , and good luck trying to get the covers off after using silicone , when i'm using my buckered guitars live and loud , when the song finishes , i grab a hold of the strings , it stops any unwanted feedback between songs , cheers

Ok so I double checked a few things. I am only getting feedback when I am running my od pedal through my lead channel. I do not get it when I am only using the amp gain or only using the od pedal on the clean channel. Kinda annoying since I never had the feed pack issues without the pickup covers. I think I may just go back to no covers. I like the look of the covers but not at the cost of feedback.

I can't imagine the pickup covers themselves being the problem. I've installed covers to 4 different pickups in the last month and have no difference in the quietness they previously had.

I honestly couldn't tell you what the problem might be, but I certainly didn't have the same result just by putting covers on them.
