My stepbrother's favorite bands are Guns 'N' Roses and AC/DC, so he always gravitated towards Gibsons. He does have a Johnson Strat copy, but he dreamed of Les Pauls and SGs. I let him play my Strats and especially my Tele and now he dreams of Fenders. He changed from a Gibson man to a Fender man.

When I was younger, a friend and I used to discuss guitars, including the ones we were going to buy when we saved up enough money--and this often led to which was better debates.

My friend said he preferred Fenders, I preferred Gibsons.

But when he had money saved up for a guitar--guess what he bought?
A Les Paul, then he got a second Les Paul. He later got a partsocaster, but was never happy with it, and kept taking it apart--it hasn't been together in years. Eventually though he did get a Fender--a P-Bass. (Now I would agree with him that Fender basses are better than Gibson basses, even though my bass is a copy of a Gibson.)

The flipside of this is when I saved up or a guitar, I bought--an Ibanez--but it was more Gibson like than Fender like. (I bought a used Iceman.) But a year later I bought a Fender Mustang.

So while he was the one who picked Fender, and I picked Gibson--he bought 2 Gibsons before he bought a Fender, and I bought a Fender before I bought a Gibson.

But, nothing wrong with having both.
