It would be in your best interest to let me adopt your sons! I could use a gift like that!

LOL! Congrats on your gift. Your boys have good taste!

well bb, compared to the tri-cone you posted... man, that's a nice piece of equipment!
Mine's a good ol' Houndog Dobro. Maple body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, round-neck (12" rad) 10-1/2" resonator, open soundwell, built-in piezo pu. I don't know a lot about the guitars, I've just loved the sound of resonator guitars since i first said (watching the "Hee-Haw" show i think it was) "What the heck kinda guitar is that?!"

I'm disappointed with the sound quality of the piezo... that's my only complaint. If anybody has any ideas about getting a hotter signal out of that bugger, I'm all ears.
I've tried running it through a Fostex compressor I've had. The input has 3 different settings, line, attenuator, and mic.
The Fostex works great if I run a mic through my guitar effects chain, say if I'm recording and want to use delay/echo, or distortion on the vocal... that's why I thought it may make a difference on the resonator, but it didn't.

Thanks Frankie, Houndog huh?, well that's got a real nice traditional shape to it.
My Tricone is just a low budget Recording King. This Hohner Reso served me well for years (until the neck broke).

I'm interested to hear about the Piezo pickups as an option for the Tricone. They attach to the cone, correct? I wonder if they vary in quality? Probably not much. They're pretty basic.
As you can see above the Hohner had/has a Telecaster neck pickup, but really this doesn't reproduce the resonator tone at all. Theres also acoustic bridge pickups to consider. I guess the best way would be to use a mic, built-in or otherwise. I can't help you with most of your technical dilemmas but I'll watch the thread with interest.
Do you play open tuned slide on it?

Enjoy the Houndog mate
Goodonya ...Mark.
