it just drives me crazy when an ebay member lists something as something its not. i informed him this was not highway one or even american made. I told him its an mim body and he replies " I took the guitar apart myself you don't know what your talking about"
so can anyone that feels like helping me get back at him report the listing pleas.

its not a big deal but just rubs me the wrong way

Evidently, you were successful as he ended the auction.

I've never bought anything on there but what's to stop a scam artist showing a picture of something and when you send the money they do a runner?

I'd just feel vulnerable buying anything like that from there. Maybe i'm wrong and they have something in place to protect folks from the scam artists but i don't know about that you hear a lot of horror stories :?

Ebay these days is SO completely geared to protecting buyers, it's scarier to sell than it is to buy. Your purchase AND shipping are automatically INSURED BY eBay, so it is hard to get burned.

AFTER the purchase, the buyers still have several methods available to undo a sale if what they purchased is not as advertised or even if they are have a good reason for not being happy with the purchase.

You only hear a "lot of horror stories" because the millions of happy buyers don't feel the need to go online and spread the love. I've had thousands of transactions on eBay as a buyer AND as a seller (about 40/60) and I've never gone online anywhere (except maybe here and now) to talk about my good transactions.

If you use your credit card, that's one more way to protect yourself. PayPal also makes it a lot easier to be a buyer than a seller. Both eBay and PayPal (now owned by eBay) give you several grievance options.

"You have nothing to fear, but fear itself." 8)

Thanks CR, What do you do if you buy an amp and it doesn't work right? how do you proceed ? do you contact ebay or the seller? who arranges to pay for the shipping to send the item back? How do you know that someone is not selling something with a fault in it? These are all issue's that i think about with it.

When you buy something sight unseen, "You Pays Your Money And You Takes Your Chances". Don't blame the liars and thieves, Blame your self for being (GULABLE).

As a regular eBayer, myself, I look for these things as well. There was one guy who had an old beat up neck that he only wanted $200 for. He said the date on it was something like "2/57" and I told him to take the auction down and get it checked. Not necessarily the same thing, but it could have been a vintage neck, and he could have been ripped off. (unless he was a scammer himself)

The first thing you do is contact the seller and tell them the amp doesn't work and you want to ship it back. Now assuming that you paid attention to the seller's feedback rating and comments from other buyers (something you really must pay attention to - that's why it's there), you shouldn't have any trouble getting your money back. But, you will generally be out the shipping charges if that's what has been stated in the auction ad. However, if the seller doesn't want to return your money, then you go straight to eBay and file a grievance. Nothing is easy and it will take time, but I don't think you'll have any real trouble getting your money back, provided you get the amp back to the seller in one piece.

You may have to prove to eBay or PayPal that you have a legitimate complaint, but these days PayPal and eBay make it hard for sellers to rip you off. Generally, you should be able to discern from the auction itself, from the seller's feedback, from good pictures and from verbal comments from the seller's previous customers if this is someone you want to buy from.

If you have ANY doubts, don't bid. But approaching eBay like you're a lamb going to slaughter generally isn't the way to do it. And for the record, sellers get ripped off, too. I know.

Ah well! i don't think i'll bother. I never see any bargains on there anyway, just a bunch of people selling items at near enough the price you'd pay in a shop for them.

My theory being that the internet has ruined any chances you have of getting bargain amps and guitars. How so? because now everyone and their granny google's the information and finds out what the proper price is for these things so you seldom get the situation of someone selling something and letting it go cheap because they don't know anything about it.

I went through it the other night looking at amps and there were no decent deals.

great points, but also look at it through the seller's eyes. you want to get the most for your product.

case in point- my parents moved to a new house a few years ago. when packing things, i found a box with some of my old goodies in it-cables, picks, etc. also in the box was a nu-fuzz pedal from the 60's i forgot about. i had no idea what it was worth. i put it on ebay, and got well over 200.00 for it. this dictates what "fair market" value is-what people are willing to pay

Granted, sellers doing a sale with Buy It Now are likely to be charging too much for what they're selling, but that's why the item sits there day after day, month after month and never sells. But if an item is listed as an AUCTION, as most are, you have a good chance of getting a bargain. If there's someone who wants an item more badly than you do, they are going to get it and you are going to think, gee, there's no bargains on eBay, which simply isn't true.

Buying things at auction, whether it's on eBay or at the farm auction down the road, can be an interesting and tricky business. If you are an experienced hand at auctions, there is a lot of subtle psychology at work, believe me. I've managed to find and win bargains galore on eBay - guitars, necks, fruit jars, American Bricks - everything that's of interest to me. And there's a lot more to successful selling on eBay than just throwing a listing up with a high price on it, but that's another story.

You want to find a bargain on eBay? You're just going to have to work at it - but they're there, every single day. Or eBay would not exist.
