hey folks! I did some research, and fortunately,
I was able to find these three stuffs from my house:
Image

for sticky vintage maple poly finish neck:
sandapaper (made in japan) or
3M scotch-brite (made in korea) or
scrub buds (made in korea) ?

going for a permanent solution.

after applying any of those,
is there any other process that follows after this step?
and is the maple neck going to look much different?
or hardly recognizable?

hi , a light rub with the wet and dry paper will work fine , just a light rub , just enough to take the shine off the poly finish , cheers

Just clean it with Naptha. No need for all the other stuff. You'll do more harm than good.

Dirty hands can be a cause of sticky guitar necks. :?
Coming straight in from school / work and picking up your axe.... where have your hands been? :?:
I used to find that carrying the gear into a venue got your hands real mucky, though you might not notice it at the time. It`s worth bearing in mind ;)

i never understood the claim that these necks are too sticky. I think they slide just fine. And I think you eliminate a huge percentage of potential buyers on ebay if you ever want to sell it one day. When I look on ebay, I skip over it if they've sanded the neck. that's just me but I bet I'm not the only one.

Agreed and you are FAR from the only one!

i've sold or traded a few guitars , mainly epiphones, which have had the neck sanded , i just asked the guy if he wanted it sanded or polished , if the answer was polished a few mins with tcut then the same with super resin car polish and the neck was as good as new , the secret is to use the finest paper or cloth you can lay your hands on , i use 2300 grit emery cloth and the neck gets a light going over , and with a light rub you start to see a lot of imperfections in the finish that weren't noticable before , cheers

excuse me, does naphtha works better than lemon oil on a sticky maple neck? and what naphtha brand would you suggest?

Welcome.

Lemon oil is a conditioner to be used sparingly on unfinished fingerboards whereas naptha is a cleaner only and can be used as required. Naptha is in fact, lighter fluid; any brand will do. FWIW, I use Zippo, myself.

Lemon oil if used excessively can cause problems.
