I know Squiers have a reputation, but while I was at a local music shop(Alpha, VB) talking shop with a luthier about things I could do to my Marauder and I played around with some of the new Classic Vibes and the J Mascis Squier and they are really, really nice. Great platforms to build on. I'm not a huge fan of any of the pups, but I NEVER am.

I picked up a CV 60's the other week and was so impressed by it. I didn't have the cash for a top US made fender and I didn't see the need to shell out the extra on a MIM when the quality of this one was so good. Sounds fantastic as well.

I have two Squiers, a Standard Strat and a Tele Custom II. Both are quality instruments IMHO.

I now own 3 squiers (and 2 fenders).

In order of quality and favorite, my Squiers rank:

3. Squier Tele Custom II with P90s
2. Squier Jagmaster
1. Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster - this guitar is on par with my American made Fenders

I love my CV but I just wish the neck were fatter. I still took the time to upgrade the block guts and but on it though.

It's good to hear people are happy with the quality of Squier. I am shopping for a new telecaster but am limited in funds. Maybe Squier is the way to go.

Love the CV 50's tele. Just wish the neck was fatter.

A few months ago I saw a couple of Squier Teles-a Thinline and a Custom that would've cost less than $500 taxes in for the pair but didn`t have the cash on hand. The fit and finish of Squiers is amazing considering the low prices of them.I have a Squier Stratacoustic and though it doesn't project or have the tone of a dreadnaught when it's put through an amp or P.A. system is where it really sings. With the E.Q. set up properly the guitar sounds incredibly full and could give much more expensive guitars a run for their money.Squier is slowly but surely shedding it's image of being a low quality starter guitar. As I always say: If they're good enough for Jeff Healey, they're good enough for me.

Yes, the quality is good, and I have bought several in the past. However, for my own personal reasons, I now refuse to buy Chinese goods if another possibility exists.

Here's a squier for you that you have probably never seen... I like how he uses "Guild" as the first work of the title... NOT a guild buddy...

I disagree... Folks have been making and playing guitars in Mexico for 100's of years... Guitar making is a new phenomenom in China.... And, trust me, the Mexicans work just as hard as the Chinese do...

How do you like your Marauder? Black or LPB? I love mine. Mine is LPB. The triplebucker gets all the attention, but the Jazzmaster pickup is stellar. The guitar sustains about twice as long as my Strats.

The local guitar shop had a J Mascis Jazzmaster that I had my eye on but it sold. I still want one though. I read that it actually has P90s in Jazzmaster covers instead of true Jazzmaster pickups.

My first electric was a black squier start and I put a jimi hendrix sticker on the body. I put some serious wear on that thing because I played it so much and it never let me down. yay for squiers!

High quality Squiers are not a new phenomenon. My first guitar was a Dakota Red mid-'80s Japanese Squier Stratocaster. It has a single humbucker (it had an Epiphone pickup when I got it. That pickup was damaged when I dropped the guitar and I replaced it with a cheap EMG Select. I plan on replacing it with a red dually Lace Sensor soon.) It is routed only for the single pickup and is therefore quite heavy. It has a rosewood fretboard, a maple neck with no skunk stripe, a black headstock. Regular tremolo, single volume control and no tone control. The output jack is located on the pickguard. The oddest thing about this guitar is that it has a 24.75" Gibson scale. It's an oddball and I've only seen one more like it in person. I stupidly modified it by putting a killswitch and a coil tap switch in it, ruining the rare pickguard. I have been told that it's a "Contemporary" model, even though I have seen Contemporary Fenders and Squiers that look completely different. It plays great and the quality is as high as my Japanese, Mexican, and Chinese Fenders and is as good as the American Fenders that I have played. The only downside to it is that it only has one pickup and is not very versatile. But it is a terrific rhythm guitar. I assume that it is basswood but I don't know for sure.

I still have it and won't part with it willingly. If my house were on fire and I had time to grab only one guitar, it would be the one I grabbed because it has so much sentimental value. And I have much more expensive guitars. The myth that Squier makes only junk is just that, a myth.

I also have my eye on a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster. I played one and I couldn't get over how good it was. The quality was excellent and it played and sounded great. I have read that it has P90s instead of real Jazzmaster pickups, but whatever it has it sounds terrific. It will likely be my next guitar.
