I cannot believe SRV played on that track...... As a avid surfer to this day and a huge SRV fan this has completely blown me away..... That's so much for posting!! I will always look at old surf movies with that track in them differently from this day on.... 8)

Ah, I remember that. It's from the movie Back to the Beach. I haven't seen that in years. Thanks for posting the link. It still rocks.

I know Dick Dale and he told me about recording 'Pipeline' with SRV...well actually they didn't record together. Dick laid down his tracks first, and Stevie later recorded his track. They had never met until filming the promo video for the movie.

The track itself is on 'SRV - Solos, Sessions & Encores' CD

Sad to say, I actually still own Back To The Beach on VHS which, I think, my kids stuck into the stuff I kept when I sold my video store in 1995. We still drag that thing out and watch it now and then when the kids, and grandkids, come to visit. This video outtake is the best part of the show.

Just goes show you what can be done when you take a basic song form to the limit. I prefer doing something like that as opposed to a note-for-note rehash of the original recording. If you lay this against the original recording you'll see the differences in nuances which make this movei version 'better' IMHO artists not-withstanding. Arrangers have been doing this for years with standards. Why not with our favorite rock music?

I've heard Andy play and he is better than Mr Dale.

And of course, much cooler.
