My teacher talked me into doing a jam night with him. For those that don't know, I'm a 60 year old taking guitar lessons. It went excellent, (not perfect) and I'm now hooked on playing with a band again. It had been about 40 years since I was on a stage. So here's what I learned:
1. That my Am Dlx Strat with the N3 noiseless pups sounded f'n fantastic through a full stack Marshall. I'm not sure what model it was but it was new and the head had a lot of knobs. Afterward, the bass player told me my guitar "sounded awsome dude". (It's a California thing).
2. Being prepared makes your performance a lot easier. After reading multiple threads here about what to take to a gig, I made sure I had everything I would need. I ended up spending half the night loaning cables and making sure I got them back. So thanks to everyone here for helping me to have a successfull evening. The first of many I hope.
3. Don't listen to anyone that tells you to pretend the audience is in their underwear. There were a few fine ladies and thinking of them in their undies didn't help a bit.

Prolly a TSL of some kind, there are a few models.

Glad you had fun! That's the most important part, IMO.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I`m in my sixties but have been playing since I was fifteen

I played in bands of one sort or another for a lot of that time but from around 2000 I stopped playing altogether. Then two years ago I accepted an invite to jam at a Shadows-type guitar club - I love The Shads music! 8) Anyway, I could hardly play a note. Not through lack of practice, but because I was so nervous I couldn`t stop my hands shaking lol :? .
Since then I`ve made a point of jamming whenever and wherever I was invited and have played country, jazz (not very well), rock etc and have found a renewed interest in my instrument (oo-err! ).
Jam as often as you can matey, and always try and jam with people who are at a higher level and you will rise to the occasion every time. :)

Thanks, that's pretty much my plan. I was real concerned about getting the shakes myself, and I thought the audience would break my focus. But, for some reason it was so cool to be with the band on stage that the audience became a nonentity.

Absolutely, I feel I've discovered a new addiction. Maybe I can give up one of my others. :)
